My Delica is ALWAYS on me---and I use it all of the time. I've got the half serrated one---I'm cutting boxes and suchlike all of the time. Good quality knife, and I've beaten the heck out of mine. (Which is another reason I like Spyderco----an excellent knife, and I don't have to pay $100 for it. If I beat it to death, it is all right, buying another one won't bankrupt me.) > Yesterday I fought in the Texas Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Cup in Dallas, Texas. Because of the one I carry, five of my friends and students carry one. Several were presents from me, and the rest were after seeing THOSE, other people wanted one also, so bought one. And I'm ordering two more for two other students now. :) I too run into a large number of MA people who always have a pocket folder on them. Indeed, a buncha thugs. :) Thomas - ------------------------------------ thomcat@binary.net http://www.binary.net/thomcat/Hap.html "If you aren't modeling what you are teaching then you are teaching something else." ------------------------------ From: YMCATKD@aol.com Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2001 22:21:23 EST Subject: the_dojang: Hwarang Do Tapes Hello all, I was paging through the latest Black Belt magazine and saw Panther Productions has a Hwarang Do video series by Dr. Joo Bang Lee. Has anyone purchased any of these video's yet? If so, what do you think of them? Several weeks later the instep of my foot still is very sore. Anyone have any ideas what might have broken? I will never forget going down to breakfast in a small elevator with a number of locals. My stomach made it, but only just. I love the stuff myself, but not at 6:30am.... I used Compuserve via a local connection for my email service and had no problems. If you get a chance while in Seoul, and want to shop at good prices, get a taxi to It-e-wan, in the suburbs. Great selections, great prices and friendly people. Have a grea trip. Could you privately e-mail me? I have lived in Korea, and just got back from a trip over there. One of the things we discussed while I was there was the possibilities of taking groups of martial artists over in the future. The trips would include Hapkido training and sight seeing. Just wondering what kind of tour you were going on, and stuff of that nature. See if the venture will work out for us and MA students in the future. Thanks. As for e-mail over there, I used family's computers, but like Anthony said, the PC rooms are all over the place now. That will be your cheapest bet for getting on the internet. I'm AOL, so I just checked AOL mail from any computer. When I lived over there a few years ago, I had my lap top and a converter to plug it in. Seoul has AOL connection numbers too. Burgers can be found all over. McD's, Burger King, Hardee's are all there. (Wendy's too, but not as many and the one by the Yi Sun Shin statue is now gong.) Lotteria is a Korea-Japan chain and has good burgers too. And there are others. Lots of Pizza places as well, including Pizza Hut. And in Seoul you have a lot of KFC, Popey's, Baskin Robbins, etc. Beer is everywhere too. I remember back in the 80s when all you could get was OB or Crown. Now there are tons of choices. You'll have to try some Soju as well. Enjoy your trip and let me know if I can be of any help. Alain Burrese ------------------------------ From: "TNT-Police Combatives ." Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2001 23:28:23 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: Training & Belts <> Over the years, I have had a number of people train with me, and have trained in many different schools. Whenever I go to a new style school, I always bring a white belt. Many years ago(after I got my TKD BB), I showed up at my old karate school with my green belt. When Sensei asked where my BB was, I told him that I did not want to offend, and wore my rank at his school. He shook his head and gave me the one he was wearing...as well as one of his uniforms to wear. When I started formal training of Jujutsu (after several years of informal) I came in with a white belt. I wanted to go through each step. When I train at the main dojo, I bring both belts, because after training, I usually 'pay' my mat fee by trading instruction and teaching the Krotty guys how to kick better! Whenever someone comes to me to train, I have them wear whatever rank they have earned elsewhere...especially Blackbelts. I feel that if someone has earned the right to wear the rank, they should wear it. There are so many styles within styles, and so many different arts, but Blackbelt seems to mean pretty much the same thing to everyone. Only if you carry one in one of the foofoo colors they come in like bubblegum... :) - -->Dear Ray Terry, Obviously if one of the instructors wives carries this knife it must be great, he wouldn't let his wife have anything less than the best! Afterall does a girls knife cut sharper than a mans? Foo-foo colors would be ok with me!! It would match my ensemble!! Especially pink!!! Some of our karate students are big into power puff girls......& those chicks are bad to the bone but very fashion conscious. I have trained in several styles since I have been a Taekwondo black belt, and have always put on a white belt. I wonder if others have similar or different views about this. Jose'(snip) I have not yet achieved a Black Belt in any style yet I am a 4th gup in WTF TKD, but I would have to agree you may have achieved a Black Belt in TKD but if you go study Judo in that style you are a beginner therefore a white belt. The instructor normally asks if you have had any previous marital arts training and he respects you for that but in his class you are new with no experience in his art.
