To tell the truth I liked it better. The testing was all day we covered everything and it was a very serious challenge.(SNIP) This is how ours is as well although I have not tested Black Belt yet, he 'announces' Black Belt testing To the current Black Belts during our adult advanced class. However, I don't agree with Herb Perez's comment that Taekwondo's uniqueness was achieved when "it evolved away from katate as it developed from a martial art of self-defense into a moden system of competitve sparring." I think Taekwon-Do was unique before the current Olympic style even came in being. > > Ray Terry > raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com > I thought more interesting paragraphs were: "On March 22, 1966, representatives of nine countries met in Seoul to form the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). Choi was elected president................Within two years the ITF had signed up 30 member countries. Simultaneously, the president of Korea nominated Kim Un-yong as the next president of the KTA..........When all attempts to force Choi to return failed, the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) was formed in 1973 in South Korea, with Kim Un-yong at the helm." So much for the independence of the WTF or KTA. Robert Martin A-4-336 "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." I for one would never wear the tkd belt in a non tkd class. with exceptions... in our classes we sometimes switch from tkd to hapkido. and i dont make anyone change belts .. even if there rank if diff. and i would have no problems with wearing a white belt in class. what counts is on the inside. not the color of your belt. the respect is for the person not the color of their belt. and i would be embarrassed wearing a tkd black belt in for example a judo class. i wouldnt be comfortable. OOPS did i say judo? i meant yudo rofl :-) my2cents Bill Evans _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 15:05:13 PST Subject: Re: the_dojang: Re: BB article > I thought more interesting paragraphs were: "On March 22, 1966, > representatives of nine countries met in Seoul to form the International > Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). Interesting views from Major General Choi. Especially the part about how early TKD has no resemblance to Karate and "Taekwondo did not evolve from Karate at all". ?!? With all respect to Master Terry, I sincerely question the AUTHOR of that article, especially since in the past several months (unfortunately I can not locate my copy) there was an interview with Gen. Choi (I believe it was TKD Times) wherein Gen. Choi admitted that TKD was derived from Shotokan. Further, at least one early tkd book written by Gen. Choi ((c) 1965) contain the Heian forms. Looking at things from a credibiltiy point of view, I prefer the interview and books authored by Gen. Choi. Neal Konecky __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I absolutely agree, "the path" of life or how we live it makes all the difference in the end. So how do you choose "the path" you will take? We all have our own path, which is determined by our "goals", or the particular direction and destination we wish to arrive at. Some may have goals to achieve a particular rank or belt color, others simply have the goal to be the best at what they are doing. Doesn't mean it is any less of a goal, just different. If you are racing towards the finish line (death), but don't know which path to head down to reach it (the goal), then what is the quality of the journey (life) that you are having along the way? Maybe a good goal would be to train hard, be the best you can be, and help others along the way to be the best they can be, to improve and assist others along their path on their journey toward their ultimate goal. This is still a goal, a goal that could keep you focused on your path, so you don't wonder too far off of it. I absolutely agree, the "path", the "way", the "do" in Taekwon-do/Tangsoo-do/Hapki-do is our quality of life, self improvement, self %whatever%, and helping others. The path/way/do can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Ultimately, it means the betterment for yourself and others. This is the goal, that keeps us on the right path. Thanks for your input Master Hodder, it is valued and appreciated. Take care, Mac (See you this weekend at Master West's seminar!) Dennis P.
