You made some great points, exactly what I was also trying to say. Sometimes your goal *is* to have fun, get a great workout, etc. I guess it is hard for some people to 'think out of the box' so to say. For instance, when I'm out ridin' on my bike (I know Jere, it's not a "real bike":-), my goal is to aimlessly wonder through the back roads, finding relaxing and enjoyable routes to no where. Basically what appears goal-less, going no where in particular than just for the sheer enjoyment of the ride. Yes, it's the journey, and many will say "see, no goal needed", but actually it is a goal, just in a different since. Without even that goal, I'd leave the bike in the garage and sit in my recliner with a beer watching TV (or reading/writing e-mails to the DD). Later, Mac (finished my beer, so time to go to bed...) ------------------------------ From: Emactkd@aol.com Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2001 23:56:42 EST Subject: the_dojang: Korean Fonts Does anyone know how to type han gul characters in Windows? I am led to believe that Win98 has the capabiltiy, but I can't get there. Answer direct or to the list, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to know. Seriously, one site is under control of ITF Headquarters in Viena, Austria (very official and the newer) and the other is under the control of Master Choi Jung Hwa in Canada (maybe not quite as official) and the first site but inactive until recent times. Both good sites. Robert Martin A-4-336 "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." In the beginning of someones martial art journey there focus might be on a black belt, but what comes after that? A black belt is never recomended as a means to an end. A 1st degree is only the beginning in my opinion. It is a mastery of required techniques and skills. 1st degree and beyond is the process of cultivating those techniques to work for you. You are not yet one with "the way" if you are only a first degree, your just scraping the surface. There is no end to the do, it is a continuous strive to perfection, to being a better person, the path continues on and on and does not end. Hapkido, Tae kwon do, Tang soo do, and etc are just vehicles to get you down this path. The beginner student does not see the whole picture, that is what the instuctor (or master) is there for, to put the student down the right path. Although the student, and everyone else should strive for short and long term goals, do not confuse this with the do. It should be a goal of every student to perfect each technique. I think some students begin there martial art journey without knowing the real goal or the do, and then find it out later, at least thats the way it was for me. Just my two pennies Sung, Pae Ki (Actually my Name is Joshua, this Korean name was given to me by my instructor when I tested for my Black Belt in Hapkido. It means Naturally ambitious spirit. Sorry I'm not Korean) ------------------------------ From: HKDHW@aol.com Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 06:00:21 EST Subject: the_dojang: My bag's are packed It is a rare occasion when I do not work and take time for myself well it is done I am off to MS. with Jack O, Diane W.
