Several participants have backgrounds in Korean and other martial arts. This is a small knit group of players who play hard and hit hard. Which raises this question for instructors--for liability purposes do you tone it down and insure hits are not bruise inducing ? I understand even if you sign a waiver courts can still hold schools liable ? Ray Terry--I am hitting you privately regarding David Wink who apparently was a buddy of Eric Knauss of the Dog Brothers fame. He led this seminar. He knows his stuff. However, several of the drills can be applied to Korean Martial Arts. Instructor was Dr. David Wink, a former student of Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje (Pekiti-tirsia Kali) and Suyardi "Eddie" Jafri, (Pentjak Silat). Dr. Wink focuses on full-contact fighting and at one time was affiliated with Eric Knauss of Dog Brothers fame. Seminar contents: - - Footwork training= forward attack angle, simple take-off - - Range Bridging for stick against staff - - Technique for dealing with a baseball bat-type weapon - - Stick Tapping Drill - - Knife Tapping Drill - - Stick versus Knife In sum, a good workout. I learned a great deal about inside attacks and footwork. The participants were eager to work with me on proper techique applications. Thanks guys. Cheers, McD... P.S. tomorrow I am looking at a numbers matching 1967 Chevelle Super Sport with 396 engine/350 horsepower. A true muscle car ! Brings me back, man. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Go to www.ringside.com . Look at the Cobra bag. Spring in middle. b. Has anyone here made a tire hit stand ? I have seen this in Cebu, PI and today. Basically, several posts together with tires. Helps with stick and staff work strikes. c. The basement gym is nearly complete. Just put up the Smith Rack with dip bar and free weight bar. Please send workout references that outline workout regimens. "I am gonna pump you up." Just something else to think about.." You are most likely right but, the discussion began as to what is perceived to be a weapon BEFORE you use it whereas a flashlight (one of those big long black ones) will not be perceived as a weapon, if you whack someone with one and split their cranium open it will be judged to be a weapon. So back to the cane, I can carry one to church without intimidating anyone. A comment on drugstore canes; I have never done the comparison. I do have a Canemaster's cane and have the utmost confidence that it will stay together after pounding it against a hard object. Congrats on your victories both in the ring at the Arnold Battle of Columbus and in overcoming your injury. I wish I would have known that you were competing in that division - I was a few rings away fighting in the 30-39 men's Olympic advanced belt division. You could have kicked me in the head a couple of times to warm up. :-) Maybe next year. - --- begin quoted message --- From: "Udell Holmes II" Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 19:13:35 -0500 Approximately three weeks ago, I posted a short message inquiring if anyone had any secrets to healing an ankle that had been "rolled". The email I sent was really brief. I usually wouldn't post anything like that, but I had been training for sparring at Arnold's Battle of Columbus. The tournament was only two weeks away, and I couldn't believe I was going to miss it. I took home the gold medal, Taekwondo Olympic Sparring, age 30-39 (Beginner division-7th gup). I stuck with the back kick, side kick and punching when my opponent was too close for me to do anything effective with my only kicking leg. It wasn't until my third match that someone finally caught on that I was not going to be kicking with the other leg anytime soon. He adjusted his body to compensate, and I started with a little footwork to get him to change his stance. After competing, my foot has not been re-injured in any way. - --- end quoted message --- - ---===--- Jim Griffin www.wuma.com sitebuilder.liveuniverse.com/jgriffin/ _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 7:49:17 PST Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #158 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
