There will basically be two penalties and no more intentionality- either u did it or u didn't - if u did - you get a penalty - OR this is kinda kewl - YOUR OPPONENT GETS 1/2 point depending on what u did. And word is u will be able to win by a 1/2 pt. These are all intended to improve the television coverage of the 2004 Olympics - and supposedly to bring back the "art" to the sport. ------------------------------ From: "Bruce Sims" Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 14:47:56 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Re: Daito-ryu History Dear Ray: "...Daito ryu historical info..." The web site seems to have an awful lot of good information. For those who may not be aware of it there has been quite a bit of in-fighting among the various factions of the Daito-ryu (thank Gawd we don't have anything like that in Hapkido! :-) ) I mention this so that people viewing the site have an idea why there is such a strong emphasis on the Takeda will and the matter of succession. If you want more insight into this you might want to try visiting the AIKIDO JOURNAL site (www.aikidojournal.com) but I would tread very lightly. This issue has a lot of energy for a lot of people, not unlike many of the issues we run into here on DD so a healthy dose of respect and ettiquette for what the Daito-ryu community is going through right now would probably help a lot. I followed things for quite a while but its becoming plain that this is very much like every other matter of succession that crops up in the martial arts. Also, don't expect a lot of credit to be given to Korean influences in the development of Japanese martial traditions. Most Japanese traditionalists are pretty firm in their belief that their arts are the result of spontaneous inspiration by an ancestor rather than importation of culture from someplace else. As always, Hapkido people will find this pretty interesting stuff considering its relationship to what we do. There is even some special attention paid to the curriculum, its organization and its relationship to weapons. best Wishes, Bruce W Sims www.midwesthapkido.com ------------------------------ From: ConcordTKD@aol.com Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 16:32:38 EST Subject: the_dojang: WTF Sparring changes “And excitement translates to spectator enjoyment, which translates to television coverage. While Taekwondo is a Martial Art, the sport aspect is still that - a sport. And as such, it must, of necessity, change to find a broader audience.” WWF here we come. There is a point where its no longer a even a sport but just another form of entertainment serving no other purpose than to sell commercial time. I am happy to see that the WTF is adopting a sparring rule set that is similar to the ITF. If action is what you are looking for all you have to do now is allow hand strikes to score, I am sure that will be next. One person holds the peg at the center of the circle, and the other person walks around to lay the tape. Makes a perfect circle everytime. Chris H. So far as I know, there's no other way to score true Olympic-style. The other options are usually added in at open tournaments to allow for TangSooDo and other martial arts that are Korean in origin. Just like amateur boxing... umm, wait... > I am happy to see that the WTF is adopting a sparring rule set that is > similar to the ITF. I'm sure that is high on the WTF's want list, be just like the ITF...
