The $120 is the price paid to the Kukkiwon. The total cost of the
test/promotion will be the Kukkiwon fee plus the amount of the Test fee
charged by the person administering the test and awarding the promotion.

Ray,
I agree. We tend to set up the goal as black belt from the time we start. I
say we collectively. Most people do. Then when one reaches it, they have
achieved their goal. They have arrived. A very difficult mindset to overcome.

Exactly. However some (many?) instructors will attempt to claim that the
Kukkiwon cost is, say $750, instead of being honest and up-front by showing
separate line items for Kukkiwon fee, testing fee, etc.
One very old, traditional, and well known TKD MDK Grandmaster from here
in California used to claim that a renewal fee had to be paid to the
Kukkiwon every so often or you'd lose your Dan rank.

What would be interesting is to compare what $25 in average Korean salary
translates to in average US salary.

It just means "gym" (sometimes also translated as house or school).
Chung Do Kwan = Blue Wave (or way) Gym.
Sang Do Kwan = Pine Way School
O Do Kwan = Gym of My way
It's similar to "ryu" or "kan" in Japanese. For example, the translation of
Shotokan (which is ussually translated as meaning "house of Shoto") is Sang Do Kwan.
The Sang Do Kwan and Chung Do Kwan both have a lineage which goes to Gichen
Funakoshi the founder of Japanese Shotokan.

wow! i think in the last few years with more use of dna testing they have
found out in a number of cases that they had the wrong person on death
row... can you imagine being on death row for something u didnt do?
clearly the long wait is to make ABSOLUTELY SURE they have the right
person. Its not the kind of thing you would want to make a mistake with.
If you were on the jury or the judge .. and found out later you made a
mistake. .. Im not suggesting that the 15 year wait is acceptable.. but
you have to error on the side of waiting.

First of all, congratulations on your move! I wish you
much success and joy.
My instructor has taught many "little dragons"..
One technique he uses that gives them great
enjoyment (and some basic skills as well)
was Balloon Kicking. Inflate some balloons
(no helium, inless you have a REAL low ceiling)
and let the kids try to keep the ballons in the
air with certain kicks. Good for focus, good for
entertaining the little devils as well.....
He is also quite fond of "frog hopping"
(squat, grab your ears and hop down the floor)
and "apple picking" (squat and jump as high as
possible and grab at imaginary apples WAY up
in the tree) .. really these are good for
big kids too! Strong legs make strong kicks!
Good luck !!
