I love learning more and more about the arts and how it all intertwines together ... :-) And yes, I have always found it interesting to find a similar series of moves in both Japanese and TKD forms. Of all the TKD forms I have done .. Po Eun is the one I have never liked ... as fast as I have learned it ... done it at a testing ... then it promptly leaves my brain ! That one has never stuck with me ! But yet I can do Niahanchi without a qualm. Weird. TKD forms BTW, I just received two videos from Master Joe Dupaquier, Jr. that cover the original TKD forms; Pyong-ahn 1->5, Chulgi I, Palsek, Yunbe, Jion, Chulgi II, and Ship su. Dear Ray, Could you provide information on or off list about how to purchase Master Dupaquier's videos? I am familiar with all the forms listed as TSD forms except Yunbe and Palsek, do they translate to a Shotokan equivalent? And is their a Chulgi III, as their is a Naihanji Sam Dan in TSD? Anyway, the recent posting regarding the presidential race of the IOC was kind of interesting, especially the information regarding Kim, Un-Yong. To whit: >KIM UN-YONG (SOUTH KOREA) >AGE: 70. >SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS: Competed at taekwondo, judo and >athletes at national championship level. >CAREER: etc. Has anyone ever seen any record of this before? I have never heard that Kim, Un-Yong was a national level competitor in TWO martial arts before. Heck, from what I have heard there was a question as to whether or not he had even put on a Taekwon-Do dobahk before. Just curious. My question is what is the value? I can tell you from experience that the Dan certification fees are what some people would consider unreasonable. I think that the reason instructors want to see the fees set at the lowest possible rate is to be able to make it accessible to more students. I have seen several outstanding students wait to test only because the fee for Dan certification is beyond their means. Some organization will adjust the fees depending on what country you are applying from. Unfortunately the US is often looked upon as the cash cow to end their financial woes. The KHF is easy enough to determine. I'll check. Not sure about Kidohae, WHF, etc. Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Tue, 03 Apr 2001 12:49:03 PDT Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #212 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
