It seems that we too could no longer teach in the trendy fashion he desired. The black belt cadre we helped build at the school became his new instructors, and in allegiance to him, eventually turned their backs on us as the friends we once knew. This above all is what truly hurt, as what we thought were true friends turned out to be false ones. >> Wow, amazing how you think you are the only one ... then you read something like this. This happened to me, too, but it went on much longer than 4 years. Glad you saw the light ... and it is a shame that those you left behind have to suffer (that was the hardest part of leaving for me). Believe me, life picks up from there ! :-) Glad you found a new home ... :-) ... I never did ... had to make one of my own. Illona ------------------------------ From: "J. R. West" Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 20:23:03 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: Wisconsin Seminar I just returned from Mosinee, WI after conducting HapKiDo seminar for the "Central Wisconsin Martial Arts Institute" and its' owners, Mr. Dave and Mrs. Christy Pryga. I have to admit that I have had bigger crowds, but I can't recall ever having more fun than I did on Saturday. It was a GREAT pleasure to finally meet GM Rudy Timmerman of the "National Korean Martial Arts Association" as well as his very talented students. In my travels I hear many horror stories about instructors victimizing their students in one way or another, but don't think I have ever met a more caring and thorough teacher than GM Timmerman. My only complaint was that we didn't have more time to spend talking, but I have been assured that he will join the teaching staff at the 16th International HapKiDo Seminar to be held in Jackson, MS in Feb. 2002, and only an unchangeable scheduling conflict on both of our parts keeps him from being down here in August for #15. All in all, it was a great time, with many old friends showing up, and of course I made several "new" friends that I look forward to seeing again. I was sorry that Donna had some problems and couldn't make it up, but we will be back there next spring. Special thanx go out to my student, Dr. Dave Collipp who made the trip with us and was more than happy to offer his medical expertise to anyone who asked. J. R. Is it just a Taekwondo thing or does it run through other Korean Martial Arts? Do you think that some people go over the top? If you are a black belt that has an embroidered belt, what do you have on it? where did you get it from? Are there any set guidelines that you have come across? (e.g. from WTF or member organisation) Do people have any opinions of the embroidered belts from Sang Moo Sa? A lot of questions I know but I would appreciate any answers. Thanks Damian Jones Mr. Jones, I was given 2 Black belts by my Sabumnim. One after I passed the test and an embroidered belt when I was given my certiifcate. My embroidered belt is in my closet. I wear the simple black belt given to me at test. This belt is important because it was given to me after test. Besides, I believe it to be more aesthetically pleasing. To me, some embroidered belts can be too ostentatious. I don't know if it helps. I thought it was a novel idea. I remember one fellow was going through his exercises and sparring in a tuxedo. Sorry, I don't remember what site it was. Trust you find this of interest.
