Do you teach the same curriculum for both? Are there techniques you will not teach a child. If so, "specifically" which ones will you not teach?" Dear Ron, Wow! That is a tough one. When I am teaching children I always take into consideration the following: Children have a shorter span of focus, their joints and bones are still growing, they will not practice (as much as they should) and they want to reach black belt ASAP. This is only a general list but it will help me explain: The curriculum which is taught should be structured in a proggressive type of system (learn to crawl before walking). With that in mind the material for an adult and child could be quite similar with the exception of "TIME". The average child will not progress at the same rate as an adult, thus you could teach the same progressive system to an adult (4-5 years to black belt) as a child (6-7 years to black belt). If your technique(s) is structured progressively, the child should be close to a maturity level in age to reach Black Belt thus an adult Black Belt and Junior Black belt would have the same material. If I were to choose one martial art technique not to teach a child it would be heavy breaking (too easy to damage soft bones and joints). A final note: Everyone is different, know your students, adjust accordingly. Regards, Kevin M. That would likely add up to be a very >> considerable sum... I guess it shows that I don't do this for a living (yet). Anyway, that's a good point - I imagine that does add up to be somewhere around 20-40% of the money you're going to be making. No one that I know of from our school other than our master has given a dan ranking test (they're only 2nd-dan after all), so it's all gup tests. There's also a 3rd degree that runs a school in South Austin, who to my knowledge doesn't pay any dues to our master. Granted, he traces his 'lineage' primarily through someone else, so he may be paying cuts to someone else. As far as I know, though, he's considered a school owner just like anyone else, and doesn't have to pay other masters. I don't know about dues to the association itself. - -Thayne ------------------------------ From: Kevin Janisse Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 11:11:10 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: RE: Kido Hae business practices Dear Bruce, I have a great deal of Kuk Sool Won experience, too much to list in e-mail, and a small amount of experience with KidoHae. One thing I can say about GM In Sun Seo is that he is quite different personally than his brother GM In Hyuk Suh. The KidoHae seminars are performed with a giving type of atmosphere: They allow video taping and questions. In fact GM Seo walked around and taught individuals as well as the group. After speaking to Steve, Mike, and Sara Seo over lunch, dinner, and social times I came to the conclusion that the KidoHae organization is there to help Korean Martial Artists, who have lost their roots/ties, find an avenue to again belong to a Korean martial arts organization. Of course they offered an open invitation to train in California or Korea and be registered in rank for certain nominal fees and proof of credibility. Not to degrade what KidoHae is or has to offer, which is alot of good stuff, they are among many Korean Martial Arts service providers with the exception of having a Korean Grandmaster with 50+ years experience to share. The quality of your writing as well as the organization of your argument could suggest that you are easily both. Your position, and welcome to it. Unfortunately, as a reasonable adult I am not required to interact with either category if I choose not to, and I elect not to. You however may continue by yourself. Try not to go blind or grow hair on your palms. I promise not to tell your parents. Best Wishes, Bruce I'd ask you to provide evidence to support your charges, but as you have failed to actually address any of the criticisms made, instead responding with misdirection, rambling and personal attacks, I doubt that you'll start addressing facts now. Still, I'll challenge you to present some evidence to support your accusations of racism. I gave mine, with quotes from your own e-mail. You ran, rather than refute them. I have no idea why you seem to bring the subject of masturbation into the discussion, but doubtless that says a great deal about your personal interests. Clearly it says something about your though processes. Dear All, I am considering hosting a Mu Do Camp for Kick/Punch (TKD/TSD) artists covering Kibon, MDK Hyungs, and Hoshinsul and/or Sparring. The rough stetch is looking like 10AM - 3PM on a Saturday in Sept or Oct of 01, in the North Georgia Area (Canton 45 minutes north of Atlanta airport on I75/I575). Goals would be MDK brotherhood, information exchange, and lots of training. I would also like to use the event to entice more MDK Players to join the AAU, and so am considering making the event an "enrollment event" with a portion of registration going to AAU dues, which would be just before the big AAU TKD event in Orlando, FL and prior to the 02 season for the Georgia Association. I will be discussing the sanctioning with my AAU reps, and would be open to hosting this event with or without the "enrollment component." My question and requests...How many might be interested? Would anyone be interested in sharing an instructors/school owners mailing list? Please feel free to respond to my direct email. Whining about consideration, whining about lack of attention, whining about fees, whining about certification, whining about me Me ME!!! Have you ever noticed that every student that was ever "compelled" to leave an organization or master never views their action as disloyal behavior? To be Loyal does not require one to be blind. Loyalty only has value in full understanding of individual failings. One has no right to demand perfection in return for loyalty. And even when perfection is offered for loyalty what happens? Look at how difficult it is for most people to remain loyal to a god - and gods don't make mistakes. But gods too must suffer the rationalizations for the disloyalty of their followers. - - - - Special Warning - -- If you miss the point of the above paragraph, don't expose your ignorance by pointing out Instructors are not gods - - - End Warning - - - IMLTHO If you think the art exists for you - then you have already been disloyal, take the time now to rearrange your priorities.
