Much to our surprise, the study has grown thanks to many Dojang Digest members; we already have responses from martial artists in several countries! BUT we still need your input! If you haven't completed the survey, please take a few minutes and join the festivities--it's almost as much fun as 24 hours of double-pad drills (and requires far less sweat)!!! http://websurveyor.net/wsb.dll/5696/MartialArtsCompetency.htm Again, thanks for you support! Paredes" Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 12:54:25 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: BB Instructors I have to agree with Joe, I also feel that the best way to learn something is to show it to someone and be asked things that you have never thought about. I too require my upper belts and Black Belts to put in some hours of supervised and Unsupervised teaching time. Unfortunately I don't have "real" Dojang. I teach out of the YMCA and my job sometimes call me away from my teaching duties. After breaking away from my Korean Master, This has been my home Dojang for several years. Although our adult classes are small, my kid classes continue to grow and I call upon my BB's to assist. I start the classes where all participate and then we break up into several groups. I take the Upper belts and my BB's take the beginners. After the kids class, we hold our adult class and this is when I "re-pay" the BB's for assisting with the other class. This is an excellent discussion. If you know of a Dojang, Master or individual that practices Chang Moo Kwan I'd like to add their school to the Dojang Directory of the www.worldchangmookwan.com home page. I appreciate any and all entries. Please send them to any of the below 2 emails. Thanks you. Here are a few that I have come across, any input would be greatly appreciated. 1) defending against multiple attackers. 2) created by the students to help remember individual defense techs. 3) mindless dribble 4) coordination of mind and body phil ------------------------------ From: "hackworth" Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 16:49:27 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Korea Hapkido Federation Bruce: Thanks for your post. I see that I should type slower, what I meant was worth less, not worthless. The NHA is the KHF in America. I have never seen anyone from the organizations that you mentioned at any KHF event in Korea or the US. I think that they (Korean organizations) like to set up national associations to remind us what "rung of the ladder" we are on. The next time you or anyone else sends a letter to the KHF headquarters in Korea, put it to the attention of Lee, Jae Whan. He speaks English very well. That would be your best bet for getting a response. Ray I thought the readers would benefit to know there is one martial arts education/certification/licensing program in the US that actually does find its authority in law. The US Amateur and Olympic Sports Act not only permits, but actually requires each sport's NGB to be responsible for training, education and certification of instructors, coaches, athletes, referees, officials, etc. The more deeply the USTU and USOC examined this issue (under the ever-cautious eye of USOC's legal department) the more it became clear that not only did the USTU have the authority to issue licenses, it has the responsibility to oversee all aspects of Taekwondo in America, including programs dedicated to establishing and maintenance of promotion standards, education, testing, certification and licensing. ------------------------------ From: "jere-hilland" Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 17:22:47 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: hapkido We are pleased to announce that the Hapkido Self Defense Center in Harrison, Ohio has now opened. This weekend (May 5) one of the more famous names in martial arts, Grandmaster Cacoy Canete, will be teaching an Eskrima-Eskrido seminar in Dayton, Ohio. Grandmaster Canete will be turning 82 this year, but you wouldn't be able to tell it by watching him do his art of Eskrima, an art he started learning at the age of 7 years old. To tie this in to the KMA, Grandmaster Canete was recently honored by the ITF's Major General Choi. I had to honor of again training with GM Cacoy his past Saturday. I began my training under him five years ago. If you go, feel free to mention my name to the Grandmaster. He'll be sure to give you 'special' treatment. :) See the 'Special' -> 'Events' section of http://www.asianfightingarts.com for more info.
