However, I am worried that I may be damaging my knees. The stretches in question that worry me are those aimed at improving the flexibility of the muscle in my inner thighs (side split muscles basically). Now, I know of several stretches which I can do for these, but they all present me with problems - - - Lying on the ground against the wall while opening out the legs. I find that with my heels resting against the wall that this puts a strain on the front of my knees. - - Sitting facing the wall with legs out, using the wall to gradually push my legs more apart. When I concentrate on keeping my legs ramrod-straight the back of my knee hurts a little afterwards. If I don't, the muscle/ligament/whatever on the inside of my knee seems to take a lot of the strain. - - Butterfly position. this just doesn't work for me as I can't get my pelvis in the right position, unless I am sitting against the wall, and then it seems to strain at the point of my bent knees. I want to o this stretch n a way which does not strain my knees at all. I keep my toes pointed straight upwards at all times during these exercises (other than butterfly position!) as I have been told to do, doesn't really help though. I really, really don't want to mess with my knees - anyone got any tips for how I can increase flexibility in these muscles without hurting my knees? I hope someone can help me with some good stretching techniques. I am a 28 yrs old male. I've been in martial arts since I was 13yrs old. But unfortunatly I didnt keep up with it between the years I was 19 to about 25 and during those years I lost my flexibility and more-so in my right leg. When I was in my younger years I could do the "splits" forward and side...... but I am a bit older now and alittle more "tighter"..... The other day I was stretching and Although I cant completly go to the ground I am not far from being there agian, but everytime I stretch I hurt myself in my Right leg "inner thigh" area...I feel it tear and pull and Gosh does it Hurt like you cant imagine.......I can still kick way above my head and so on and I can do the spinning kicks well..... But my goal is to make it all the way down again...... Is thier any good stretching or proffessional research that I can get.....Should I keep stretching this "muscle" or what not in my Right leg.... Although It gives me this sharp pain? Any and all replies are welcomed Thanks, Cory ------------------------------ From: MJD99AB@aol.com Date: Thu, 7 Jun 2001 10:36:28 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #328 In a message dated 6/7/01 8:47:35 AM US Eastern Standard Time, the_dojang-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << From: "Maafa" Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 19:21:56 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: Jungdo & Hapkido school, Chicago, Illinois Hello. He is an 8th Dan in Hapkido and has classes 6 days/wk. It is very traditional training and he is not associated with any organizations. Let me know what other info you are looking for. There are some significant technical accuracy problems from a ecological and behavioral standpoint, which need correction and some work. Likewise, there are a couple of major anthropological problems that need to be addressed. And there are some paragraph problems that should be dealt with for readability. The first is my field of expertise and I have some experience in the latter two, and would be interested in helping out. But it will take some time, so I just wanted to make sure Mr. McGrath is interested in making the article technically accurate before I invest the time. You or he may contact me privately if he is interested in doing this.
