I was recently on the World Kuk Sool Association web site and noticed a couple of things that leave me a little confused. 1) One the "Masters" page there is a listing for Senior Masters, 9th dans, 8th dans, etc. The three Senior Masters listed have no other rank indicator. Are they 10th dans? Ninth dans who have been with Suh, In Hyuk Kuk Sa Nim for an extremely long time? Are they masters who have been with Kuk Sa Nim since the early days and have been given a special rank because of the length of their studies? Is there another explanation? 2) There is a special announcement on the site stating that Kuk Sool Won is now recognized by the Korean Government as an official governing body for Martial Arts. I presume this would of course include Kuk Sool. Will this have any impact on ther Kido Hae's governance of Kuk Sool? By the way, the announcement can be seen at: http://www.kuksoolwon.com/sp_announce.htm Thanks in advance for any insights. The school is called Kuk Sool Won of Greater Rochester. The Instructor's name is Gary Evarts. I don't know much about Kuk Sool Won, but from what I read on it, it's a well rounded art. It's like TSD with, ground fighting, weapons, ext. Does anyone have any more info on KSW, and does anyone know of Gary Evart? Thanks in advance. Tang Soo! Dizz 6th Gup TSD P.S. Kuk Sool is a well rounded art that has enough material to challenge most students. I think you will have fun. Best wishes in your training. When I was an underbelt, Sa Bum Nim Evart judged my ring at a couple of tournaments I was at. He was very nice and relaxed, and did a good job at helping to reduce the tension in the ring. If you haven't already, check out kuksoolwon.com, and the link to the Rochester schools. Good luck and give it a try. Hopefully it will work out for you. - ---------------------------- "Reading maketh an evil man" Garrison ------------------------------ From: "Meghan Gardner" Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 10:57:46 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Events for Waltham, MA A few upcoming events for Guard Up in Waltham, Massachusetts: 1) Next Sunday is our Advanced Women's Self Defense class for women with previous experience in self defense. Is it less of a feeling of fear and perhaps closer to anxiety because of feelings of inadequacy? I was not afraid to be injured. However, I felt foolish because I did not know what I was doing. To combat my anxiety, I practiced sparring combinations so that I had something to perform. I also watched other students' fighting and tried to visualize how to escape certain attacks. Hope that helps. - -Cheree ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 9:16:47 PDT Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #347 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
