But, if you're just looking at price: http://www.karatedepot.com has Century student uniforms for $27.95 with $2.95 shipping and http://martialartssupermarket.com/ has Pro-Force uniforms for $14.75 with $8.00 shipping. ------------------------------ From: "Michael Rowe (outlook)" Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 08:44:23 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: RE: Uniform <> Well just to let you know that is what I charge for a plain white uniform as well. Do as you wish in purchasing a uniform, you may find it cheaper somewhere but you will not be supporting you club and instructor, which to me is a bit rude. Your instructor unless he/she is totally without merit deserves your support and respect. ------------------------------ From: kronikmac Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 09:12:37 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #362 Hello fellow Digest readers. I'm going to be moving to the Overland Park, Ks. area in the next month and have been looking at some Dojang's there. I was hoping someone out there might know of one of the places I've found. It's called Ko's Black Belt Academy and is run by a Grandmaster Ri Kon Ko. (http://www.kosblackbelt.com/home/default.htm) It say's on the schools webpage that Grandmaster Ko is an 8th Dan in TKD, a 6th Dan in Judo, and a 5th Dan in Hapkido. As I am always leary of ending up at a McDojang I was hoping someone out there might know/know of Master Ko and could confirm that he is a good instructer. Or if you know of any other good TKD/Hapkido schools in the Kansas City/Overland Park area. Any help is greatly appreciated Danny Dodge ------------------------------ From: FGS & KVF Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 07:26:17 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #362 Just thot I'd let people know a little about my experience at the Krav Maga National Center in Los Angeles, CA. I have been wanting to see how much of my 4 years of MA experience have prepared me for adrenaline charged self-defense. Now they didn't have padded assailants, but the style taught there is amazing. Simple skills that can be learned and refined in months vs. years. For self-defense purposes, it is awesome. You learn to throw knees, elbows, kicks, punches all rapid fire continuously for anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds. the time a fight might last out if you're unlucky. the training and exercise is amazing. I sweat thru pants and shirts every class, and I usually barely break a sweat in my normal MA class where kicks and punches are called out one by one. It's realistic training and the skills are not complicated or require years to really integrate into motor learning. MA is something I like for the benefits of grace, fluidity, coordination, meditation, but Krav Maga is definitely great for self-defense in a short amount of time. I am not putting any MA down, just from my background in physical therapy and exercise physiology, I can say that many of the skills taught in MA require years to fully integrate into reactions not thots. This is not true with Krav Maga skills, b/c their focus is on simple, quick effective ways to end the conflict and get away. No one or 3 step fighting drills, no chambering from the hips and no katas. Like one instructor said, the mugger who gets defended against is not going to complain that the defender looked bad, just that he/she was effective. If anyone is looking to supplement their MA training with skills for pure self-defense that can be learned quickly, but still need practice, Krav Maga is a good way to go. Just taking a couple seminars can open up new ways to use some of the skills taught in the MA and get some new skills. Spunky _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I think this is a fair price for a uniform for an adult. If you wanted an heavyweight it would be way more expensive than what he is charging. I say this because one minute you are saying lightweight and then in another sentence you say any weight you choose. He teaches Modern Arnis and JKD. Tacoma has large Korean population. Stay away from parts of Lakewood/Tacoma. Run down motels, hookers, and massage parlors. Did not visit so can't tell you what to expect. Not my cup of tea. Looked at a few houses just to compare. Large cathedral type ceilings. Mission report: Completed. I thought that was a good reason to reschedule the test for that Friday night.< 1) Assuming the student asked for early testing, that is valuable information about the student/family. It says "please rearrange your schedule because our wants (New Belt & Grandma) are so very important to ME/US. 2) Forcing the boy to chose would have told you much more about him and his family. Making hard choices builds character. No matter which side of the decision you favor, Testing or Grandma, you could then instruct with reward for making a 'good' decision, or with punishment for making a 'bad' decision. IMHO I can't think of a single reason for a person to test early - even one day. I do understand that many legitimate things may cause them to test late.
