Do you ever "resent" teaching, feel that you took up the arts to practice, not to teach? How do you deal with those feelings? >> No, I love to teach and I make sure that I connect with others to keep my skills up or learn new ones. What I miss is the camaraderie with the ones that I came up the ranks with ... we have all gone our own ways and opened up our own schools or are self employed in some other endeavor. Many have started a family (I am way past that endeavor in my life and am enjoying grandchildren right now) ... and others have moved away. What I would love is for the old school to have regular reunions with the old students ... Do any of you have that at your schools ? I went to a seminar in Florida last week and ran into Fumio Demura, Sensei and he says they have them regularly in his school in California. It was meant to be that we should meet as his old 2nd dan student is my landlord ... so I took his phone # and address home with me to give to my landlord so he could attend one of them if he wishes. Just back from a 40 mile bike ride. Only did 25 yesterday. ~1000 since getting back on the bike after my surgery in early March. I've loved riding a bike since I was 5. I was looking at doing something to the sorts here in my home town, could someone give me the insight on how or what I would need to do this. I know my "Past" instructor used to this sort of thing in the Elemenatry schools. What kind of Curriculum, or certain criteria should I offer the board of education to advocate bringing something like this about. thanks feel free to email me on a personal note stickfighter27@cs.com thanks cory ------------------------------ From: "Master Frank Clay" Date: Sun, 5 Aug 2001 20:42:21 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: MDK Grandmaster Shin can not be sued the name that is copywritten is tang soo do moo duk kwan, not moo duk kwan tang soo do. and if he did it before the copyright was issued, then he would have been grandfathered. ------------------------------ From: Anders Torvill Bjorvand Date: Mon, 06 Aug 2001 11:06:41 +0200 Subject: the_dojang: Re: Copy-rights At 17:33 05/08/2001 -0400, you wrote: >1.) I just couldn't help myself - even though this is getting really off topic, but here goes: a cheaper way is to put your material in a sealed envelope and mail it to yourself. Assuring that the postage date is visible. This will not make the world aware of it, but it will hold as evidence in a trial and only costs a stamp. >2.) You MUST give compensation - if not, they can surely deny you using it both in public and in instruction. Well thought out responses. First, I wish I could devote most of my energies to martial arts training. I do admire those who make it a full time pursuit knowing I will never reach that level. Second, I have a tendency to want to experience a myriad of activities. Lately, I have narrowed it down to: - -Family and Work - -Martial Arts - -Fast cars (or nice old cars) Used to be an avid skier and backpacker. Perhaps the future will see a shift in the above outlined priorities. Thanks again. McD... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I am at the dojang 6-7 days a week for about 70 hours a week and we are only open 50 hours a week. But I do try to maintain my bonsai collection. I play, write and record music in my studio. I also enjoy a cruise on the Harley. <> Out of my 10+ hours in the dojang daily, 5 is in the office and 5 is teaching class. When I put on a white belt in 1974 I never thought I would teach full time. But once a dan holder gets to a certain level of experience, I think the line between being a teacher and a student is one that is hard to find. I think the passion of your art takes over after time and you can't imagine doing anything else. Jere R.
