I agree with you that you need a balance in your life and that too much of any one thing will throw you off kelter. I use the philosophical and emotional aspects of Hapkido everyday in my life to deal with my surroundings and people. So in a sense I do Hapkido all the time. Like you I would rate my activites into a list like this: 1. My family 2. My job,, which I thouroghly enjoy being an art teacher (computer art and drawing)plus I get paid for doing my own art work too! 3. Hapkido training 4. Jogging,, I am training for a half marathon right now for Dec. 2,, it is a 13.1 mile trail run in the Ocala National Forest. Will be cool. Just got to watch for snakes, spiders, and gators! I jog at least 7 to 14 miles a day,, headphones on,, good alternative rock,, clears the head and body!! 5. Reading,,, I love to read everything about the martial arts. What else is there! All kidding aside, I'd love to teach and learn 24/7/365 but my financial situation does not allow that. It is my goal though to one day own and operate a great school. But as for now I enjoy learning, teaching, sharing with my peers, and going to seminars and just meeting new people and learning new things. Outside of Martial arts hmmm. Well my family I love spending time with my wife and 4 yr old son, going camping and amusement parks. My Job is great, I am a juvinille corrections officer at a Boot-camp/and diagnostic center of wich I love being an influence in disrupted youth's lives. I love to bike ride, play basketball, watch movies, surf the web, and play minerature golf, and I love playing Paintball whenever I can get enough people together to play. : ) but I think Martial arts will always be a part of my life and hope to make it a career one day. We are alowed to wear "offical" t-shirts in lieu of our doback tops and i just can't do it. I tried it a couple of times and i just can't get into working out without the full garb. I don't fell like a "krotty" man without it. Its something I only expirence while practicing Hapkido though, I'll play basketball in work boots or go climbing bare foot etc, it doen't seem to matter. If you're crazy save me some room on the group W bench. Brian ------------------------------ From: Emactkd@aol.com Date: Tue, 7 Aug 2001 01:04:57 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Tournaments I have fought in and refereed at a fair number of tournaments over the years, and this weekend, after a small but fairly typical tournament, I have some questions for the illustrious minds of the DD. I had thought to send students to tournaments for three reasons:: 1. The experience 2. The education 3. The community But my students, and just about all the other students missed out on #2 and #3. Once their division had been awarded their medals, they left. The black belt sparring was attended by the black belts, the judges, (those who were left), and the students who had agreed to clean up after the tournament. So the black belts ,who had spent the day judging all the colored belt divisions, were left to themselves for their sparring. I have made it clear to all tonight that if they cannot commit a day to a tournament to support their black belts, we don't need to support their tournament careers. Am I alone i this experience? My doctor said as long as you where doing it before pregnancy there is no reason not to. I have been training for 2.5 years. He said if something hurts or is uncomfortable quit or slow down other than that it's all good. Common sense seemed to be enough to keep them active yet safe, e.g. no sparring, no falling, extra distance given when performing 1-steps, 3-steps, etc. Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com We don't suffer from insanity, we ENJOY every minute of it. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Tue, 07 Aug 2001 8:18:03 PDT Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #466 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
