I noticed that the picture of General Choi, Hong Hi (ITF President) is actually that of Grandmaster Park (GTF president), even though the subtitle of the picture is for General Choi. Anyone else spot this? Taekwon. Melissa > From: Ray Terry > Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 19:50:18 PDT > Subject: the_dojang: another TKD history > > An interesting read... another 'History of Taekwondo'. Folks, This is a tad bit off-topic, but self-defense is an important subject that we discuss here on a daily basis. In my honest opinion, we are far more likely in this day and age to become a victim of non-violent crimes...most notably, financial crimes such as identity theft. The reason that I'm bringing this subject up is because I myself was targeted for identity theft in recent weeks. We hear a lot about identity theft on the news these days...how it is one of the fastest growing crimes in America, etc. Let me tell you...I've heard all these things before, but it's not "real" until it has happened to you. It's my hope that everyone here (and anyone that you pass this information along to) can benefit from my painful experience, and avoid the worry, stress, and loss of peace-of-mind that I've experienced over the last 12 days. All in all, I'm only out of pocket about $16.49, and I'm confident that I can recover even this small amount once I file the necessary paperwork with my bank. Truthfully, I'm probably not even going to bother with it...the total amount of check card transactions (that I was able to detect and stop) would have come to over $1,300. I don't mind saying that my wife and I do fairly well for ourselves, but we don't have that kind of money to be taken away. I'm sure the same is true for many on this list. My focus now is twofold: 1. Bringing the responsible parties to justice. As a matter of fact, the person responsible has already been identified through my OWN investigations into this matter (they screwed with the wrong boy). Only a matter of time before the police pick them up. 2. Preventing this type of crime from happening to me in the future. Truthfully, this could have been much worse. In this case, they somehow got ahold of my Debit Card account number. Things could have really hit the fan had they gotten their hands on my address, social security number, and/or checking account number. Friends, I urge you to take the time to visit the following website in order to further educate and protect yourself from this type of crime. http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/ It's my hope that my experience can motivate others to do what it takes to protect themselves, and provide a basis from which to properly react if this should happen to them. Remember...people have had their lives turned into a living hell by this same type of activity, and much like those same people...I always thought, "It will never happen to me". Well, it did...and I'm lucky to have walked out relatively unscathed. Money can't make you happy...but having it stolen away can make you absolutely miserable.
