I suppose we in the Korean Martial Arts Should be flattered... we have yet another organization that is trying to move into the Korean Mudo world... This time run by a 23 year old founder of a Chinese style. For those of you new to the DD, every August and February a huge hapkido workshop goes on for 3 days in Jackson. It appears a lot of folks from this group will be attending in February and last February we had over 300 attend, I expect we will break that record this year. I look forward to seeing everyone then. There`s a British magazine called "Taekwondo & Korean Martial Arts", published monthly, 98 pages, lots of advertisements but also quite a number of information from TKD scene (mainly from U.K.). I`m a subscriber for two years (but it`s the only foreign TKD mag available in subscription here ;) Regards - -- Piotr Bernat dantaekwondo@lublin.home.pl http://www.taekwondo.prv.pl ------------------------------ From: "Prince Loeffler" Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2001 16:29:17 -0400 (EDT) Subject: the_dojang: Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2001 12:48:30 -0700 I am writing a thesis regarding the roles of the colored belt. There are so many issues written about the Black Belts and I'd like to see if all the the Colored belts, Blackbelts, Masters and Grandmasters remembers what it was like when they were at the White , Green and Brown Stages. What I'd like to know is: 1) What were your ROLES at these 3 (white, green & Brown) stages ? 2) What was EXPECTED of you at these (white, green & Brown) stages..? 3) What were your EXPECTATION at these 3 (white, green & Brown) stages ? This topic is a nice way to go for to ride down the memory lane, specially for the old timers here..(lol). I have always enjoyed all my Teachers war stories. There are just days I wish I was there ....Rest assured that you will be given acknowledgment credit for your comments..... Once again, I thank all who participa in advance !!!! ------------------------------ From: Charles Richards Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2001 13:56:41 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: USTU and AAU Dear Mr. Holloway, I read your post about preferential treatment based on rank in your NGB. It reminds me of my decision to be "semi-independent." As in my NGB is not run and controlled by a "traditional lineage" or anyone of the same nationality as the art we study/practice. Further, their bi-annual training seminars are open to all instructors (and students over age 15). IF you are dedicated to the mission statement "To foster excellence in TKD in the United States, provide for all TKD athletes to achieve their goals and to win gold medals in the Olympic Games," I would suggest you investigate your local/state AAU Taekwondo program. Your youth (18-) will be able to compete for gold in the junior olympics, and your adults will be able to compete in Olympic Style sparring. I like to award 1st, 2nd and 2 co3rds with 4 youth in each division. In sparring we eliminate the finals round for 3rd and 4th and just award co-3rds. This way at least every child will receive a bronze (something in hand). I have found tournament "certificates of participation" are just something else for the clean-up crew. As for adults, I use the same 4 awards, but like to see about 8 per division. In both cases I award the trophy/medal at the end of the division.
