Bob, Koje-do ------------------------------ From: hogwldfltr@cs.com Date: Wed, 12 Sep 2001 11:35:29 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Some Prayers on the NYC/WTC/Pentagon/Pittsburgh Tragedies In two hours I was supposed to be on a plane headed to Allentown, PA just outside of the NYC area. I was considering Monday taking a friend/co-worker into NYC and showing them the town where I grew-up. I was considering taking him up in the Empire State Building. I visualized the view of the WTC from the obeservation deck of the ESB. As I grew up the ESB had been visible from my father's office window. I pretty much left the NYC area in 1970 returning in 1981 to live in NJ until 1987 and again leaving because fo career opportunities. When I left NYC for college in '70 the WTC had yet to be completed. Little did I thing that the opportunity to show off the town where I grew up (without the WTC) would be so literally possible. The horror which has unfolded in front of the world has hit my hometown with unparraleled peace time fury. Yesterday as the result of the horrific tragedies TI which I work for instituted a security measure prohibiting air travel until further notice. My flight to the East was canceled, my trip postponed. I planned to run and swim yesterday during the day, workout last night in Hapkido and run again this morning in preparation for the trip; traveling is not always condusive to exercise. Yesterday's workouts went as planned. We worked out last night in spite of the tragedy. It was a light class but it felt good to continue with life in spite of the sickness which caused the tragedies. It was as victorious as I could be in the circumstances. I did not run this moring however I may swim today at lunch. Tonight I will attend a memorial mass, Sunday I will give blood which I hate to do. I pray for the individuals who were directly touched by these tragedies may they be comforted. I pray that the US and the world may be brought to greater strength as the results of this wound. I pray that the individuals who masterminded the attacks never again sleep with out nightmares of their ghastly impact on world society. I pray that they carry this horror with them to the grave. I hope that this will be soon. This was a cowardly act committed by people who have lost all rights to be called human. Human beings would not condone such an atrocity, nor participate in such an act. There is no justifaction for this barbarism, no excuse for this massacre, and nowhere these creatures can hide. The Race, nationality, religious beliefs, or political views of these animals do not matter: They have become the lowest form of life on this planet, and should treated with the same respect and kindness that they showed the people at the WTC -- none at all. I hope that these people are found and brought to justice, in one form or another. I feel frustrated, because there is no way I can help in this matter. I have no money, and because of a gentic condition, I cannot give blood. I live 1500 miles from New York. All I can do is offer my prayers, and watch. It is at times like this that you realize that most things we disagree and debate about are insignifacant compaired to what has happened in NYC, DC, and PA yesterday. No amout of training or experence can prepare you for something like this. I hope we never have to go through this again, but somehow, I don't think this will be the end of this. Notice the celebrations in the streets in Afganistan. How sad. Those people may not have had anything to do with the attack personally, but to cheer the deaths of innocents is to give up your right to the title of human. I may not agree with another country's ways or beliefs or even dislike the leaders, but to cheer the deaths of people who have done me no harm...I'm sorry, but that to me is the real evil. But, I wonder if all the planes were told this, why someone else did not stand up and try. Let's face it, there were more passengers than terrorists on board, and if told they were to die, what did they have to lose by trying to prevent or avert the coming tragedy. Now, maybe not all the planes hijacked were done the same way, so the passengers did not know, but the story about the knives, makes me think that if more passengers had combined, there might have been a different outcome. Now, I am not saying that there would not have been deaths but I would hope and will hopefully never know personally, that if faced with certain death, that I would at least try to do something, since it would be a situation that is certain death on one side and the slim possibility that there is life with an attempt. I still think it is a sad horrible thing that has happened, but the story of the 3 men, and the NYers help and coming together, gives me hope that we can salvage something from this and that humanity has a chance. Hi, I broke my little toe in Hanmudo last night - and not even in a really cool/intersting way, just tripped over a crack in the mats :-( - but I don't want to miss out on more lessons than I have to. Is there anything I can do in class that doesn't involve using my little toe? ie, doing kicks on a hard floor instead of mats, etc?
