The way you coutched your statement below, "one should" indicates there is a definite right way and therefore inference of a wrong way. While I tend to think the way I do things is the right way, my intent was to find out whether some people on the list test only on new material. And I certainly did not want to imply that doing so was wrong, even if it is different from the way I do it. It was my hope to stimulate some discussion on testing, and the pros and cons and the experience of others on including just newly learned material versus all material. I still fail to see how your question about whether I only work on new material addresses my question. I suppose that I could infer that you believe that one should practice more than just new material at any level. I could further assume that this means you believe that tests should be comprehensive. And in this case, you and I are in agreement. But Bruce, surely you would agree that it would be much clearer if you just said what you mean. To the other folks who responded, thanks. Its interesting to me to here your reasons for doing what you do. Dear Bredfield, Dear Dojang-Digest, I have received plenty of letters as above these days, including Nostradamus SPAM and Windgings SPAM. Such things are not worth to spread, even more, should not be spread to newsgrops. Why? 1) They make economical problems, consider time spent on reading/thinking about/replying to such things. 2) They most often are not true and so spread disinformation and panic. 3) They consume resouces, that could be used otherwise. 4) People subscribed Dojang-Digest to discuss Korean MA related things, and that's why they gave you ability to mail to them. I also don't like other media (TV, news) for spreading panic and unproven info, but that's another case. G'irts P.S. As rebuttal to this info, I can tell that many Europian countries, including Latvia and of course US neighbour Canada have given significant support to US theese days. And please contact me privately on this subject. ------------------------------ From: "Rudy Timmerman" Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 03:43:17 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: War War has changed. No longer is it fought between armies of nations, it is waged against civillians of all free nations. Fifty some years ago, many nations stood by in the hope THEIR country would not be next on the list of a madman. This was a false hope, I know, I was there. Today, we face a similar threat, and we cannot stand idly by hoping it will not touch us. This time let us not think it may not happen to us, we know better! As a Canadian, I have contacted the leaders of my country. I EXPECT them to do nothing less that they would if we ourselves had been attacked. If we must make sacrifices, so be it. War has been declared, and it has been declared against humanity. My American friends, let us know how we can best help you, but know this -- you are NOT alone. Those responsible for this terrible act of cowardice must know they have not attacked the US, they have attacked the family of every free man on earth. If those who are responsible are allowed to hide in holes, we must burn the house down. If the only thing they understand is violence, we must talk to them in their own language. Ray, I am sorry for using this platform to vent my anger and frustration, but I have many American friends on this list. As my day of training started early on September 11th, my classmates and I were asked to say something a word about why we were taking the course. I mentioned that my fiance ran a karate school and that I thought it was a good idea to be prepared for possible injuries... As we entered the lounge for a break, a frantic woman ran in to explain the unfolding tragedy. A man turned to me and said, " I guess all the Martial Arts knowledge in the world can't save you from that." For a while, I thought he was right. What good is self-defense at this point? In a moment of self-pity, I managed to forget the virtues and mental stamina also inherent in the Martial Arts. In a sense, the Martial Arts have saved me...My training is a means of refocusing on the solidity and patriotism of my fellow Americans and shields my heart from the malice I feel towards our enemies... ------------------------------ From: Chereecharmello@aol.com Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 17:54:04 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #527 << Anyone have experience with really bad ankle sprains? >> I sprained my ankle AFTER a karate class by simply stepping off a sidewalk... My ankle continued to feel tight and unstable for slightly over a year... ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 19:14:53 PDT Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #528 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
