The group, the Civilian Movement for Correction of Japanese Textbooks, said on Wednesday (Sept. 19) that an advertisement regarding the textbook issue will be published in the Asahi Shimbun starting next week. Most Japanese dailies had balked at publishing the ads due to their sensitive content, but with the consistent persuasion of Japanese and Korean civic groups, Asahi at last gave its consent. It will be published in the newspaper a total of five times between Sept. 27 and Oct. 13. After first praising the rejection of a right-wing textbook by most Japanese schools, the ad will emphasize that the textbook issue must be settled for the sake of peaceful relations between Korea and Japan. The civic group raised 2 million yen, or 20 million won, in citizen donations to pay for the ad. The controversial textbook, one of the eight approved by the Tokyo government in April, has only been adopted by less than one percent of Japanese middle schools, despite the fierce campaign by Japanese rightist groups. ------------------------------ From: "Adam Gibson" Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2001 00:25:14 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Opinions on How long Children's classes should be???? Hi All, I was hoping to get some opinions of how other successful schools around the US and Canada are running their kids classes with regard to length in minutes, how times a week they are allowed to attend and how others separate the belt-levels. Some people believe that kids only need 30 minutes per session others think it has to be at least 60 minutes to be of benefit. I would love to hear some feed back on what other schools are doing and how many children they have enrolled in their curriculum. Also dealing with minimal staff/instuctors when there are too many kids and how a better designed schedule will do for that specific problem(when you have minimal staff).
