While this can be a fairly common view held by our ITF friends, it is also a view held by many WTFers. i.e. since ITF is not commonly practiced in Korea how could it be Real TKD??? My point here is that we can all be small minded in our view of what is, and what is not, "Real". I don't really know how people in KUK SOOL WON U.S. do it. It is held on with velcro and actually works! The vertical punch was quicker, and used in areas where skin breaks were unlikely (covered in cloth) ie ribs. In Hapkido punching (as I was taught), we have only one application for using the last three knuckles, all others are large knuckle, or other joint strikes. IMHO The heel strikes protect the knuckles, but expose the terminal phalanges to breaks. We use heel palm to effect "deep trauma".
