"At a time when anti-aircraft guns are aimed toward the sky and missiles can be launched in the blink of an eye, it is very dangerous for not only a few, but for numerous civilians to fly (to the South)", said a statement released by the North's Committee for the Peaceful Unification of the Fatherland. The message was aired on the Korea Central Broadcasting Station and Radio Pyeongyang in the morning. The fourth-round of exchanges of separated family delegations were scheduled to take place in Seoul and Pyeongyang from Oct. 16-18, and the North's taekwondo delegation was invited to come to the South on Oct. 20. The North's statement, however, drew a line between civilian exchanges and official talks. It made it clear that it will hold the sixth ministerial meeting, the second economic cooperation talks, and the Mt. Geumgang negotiations with the South, which are all scheduled for this month, only on condition that they be held at Mt. Geumgang, "where safety is guaranteed." The North's abrupt postponement came four days before the reunions were to begin, disappointing the South Korean government and the delegations of separated families in the South. "The fact that North Korea referred to our internal problems as a reason for the delay is totally unacceptable," said Unification Ministry spokesman, Kim Hong-jae. Unification Minister Hong Soon-young sent out a letter of protest to the North in the afternoon, urging Pyeongyang to keep to the agreements made with Seoul at the fifth ministerial talks last month. Elderly men and women who were anticipating the long-awaited reunions with their northern kin next week and making last-minute preparations were crestfallen, but most clung to hopes that the reunions would take place some time soon. "I am sure that things will be fine and that the reunions will be held in the near future," said 72 year-old Han Eui-su, as he played down fears that he might not be able to meet two of his sisters, one said to be ill, who await him in the North. Han and his sisters have been separated for more than five decades. This is not the first time that the North has unilaterally postponed inter-Korean talks and events. The third South-North family reunions, originally planned for Dec. 5-7 last year, were only realized in February this year, at Pyeongyang's request. The fifth ministerial talks in March were also unilaterally postponed by the North, only hours before they were to begin. As for North Korea's motives for the abrupt delay after reopening official talks with the South last month, economic reasons are seen as topping the list. The not-so-satisfying results from the Mt. Geumgang talks, plus the fact that Seoul is showing no signs of helping the North to relieve that country's electrical power shortage, have all resulted in a stronger position for Pyeongyang's hardliners and a delay of the reunions, North Korea watchers said. Just one day before, North Korean Red Cross liaison officers had made contact with their South Korean counterparts and were making preparations for the reunions in the border village of Panmunjeom. Other watchers raised the possibility that North Korea might have simply needed more time than the 10 days it had to prepare for the reunions. Meanwhile, Suh Young-hoon, President of the (South) Korean National Red Cross, which is in charge of arranging the family reunions, sent a letter Friday afternoon to his North Korean counterpart, Jang Jae-on, in which he said that such a delay was not understandable. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 19:00:42 PDT Subject: the_dojang: school drill Forwarded message: A drill that we use occassionally in class is our station work-out. (The stations consist of such exercises as push-ups/sit-ups, high jumps, line shuffles (like a basketball drill), balancing on one foot, leg lifts, squats, jumping rope, punches (from a deep straddle stance), jumping jacks, etc. I wrote up about 12 different exercises on half-sheets of paper and had the cards laminated. We set the cards out in a circle and put every student on a card to start with. Give the students one minute on each card for them to work as hard as they can at that card. After one minute, holler "switch" for them to move one card in a clockwise direction and immediately begin the next card. The exercise is done when each student has completed each card. Because they are doing the same exercise for a full minute (probably by himself/herself) it is important to have something interesting going on (motivational instructor, music, students saying student creed, etc.) You can also have each student count how many of each exercise they complete for a reward at the end of class. If you have a large class, half the class can be doing the drills while the other half keeps score for his/her partner on each station. ------------------------------ From: "Dizzy S." The 3 beginner forms, Kichi Hyung Il, Ee, and Sam Bu..... from white to orange belts to learn.... Pyang ahn cho, ee, sam, sa, and oi dan forms, for blue, purple, and all of green to learn. Bassai to earn 3rd gup red. Our federation also uses the nianchi forms for red belts through apprentice. In most TSD schools, however, these are taught after 1st Dan. Also, the chilsan forms, there are 6 known in the federation currently, 3 before first dan, three placed between each group of forms (one after kichis, one after pyang ahns, one after nianchis). For a total of 15 before 1st Dan, the equivalent to about 1 1/2 forms per rank to learn, each rank held a minimum of 3 months. >> Thanks to all for the answers! In order to be fair, the system I consider my primary system, we use mostly Tang So Do Forms up to the 1st Dan -- 19 empty handed and two knife forms. they are listed below, with some variances in the spelling from what others posted. Kee Cho Hyung Il Boo Kee Cho Hyung Ee Boo Kee Cho Hyung Sam Boo Pyung Ahn Cho Dan Pyung Ahn Ee Dan Pyung Ahn Sam Dan Pyung Ahn Sa Dan Pyung Ahn O Dan Bassahee So Bassahee Tae Dahn Do Hyung So Dahn Do Hyung Tae Nai Ahn Chi Cho Dan Nai Ahn Chi Ee Dan Nai Ahn Chi Sam Dan Tae Ji Hyel Sang Gook Kwon Tjin Tae Sip Soo Ro Hi Tjin Tto The last six are at the 1st Gup level.... The reason why I asked is the impression that forms have fallen out of favor for some reason, That maybe some schools were reducing the number of forms to keep students. I can see that isn't the case, which is good, because forms are I think the solid foundation that most Martial arts are built on. As I have read, even systems that are consider soft, like Hapkido, have forms that give the student the abiltiy to pratice the main tenants of their system. I find Forms to be the perfect solo activity. I am glad its not being forgotten. As you may see at http://home.austin.rr.com/rhome/the_dojang/patches.html, directly linked to our site http://martialartsresource.com, a large number of patches from members of the_dojang have been sent in over the last few years. I still have a handful more to scan in and add to the above, which may now occur given my newly obtained scanner. The request... If you have an extra patch from your dojang/school/style/organization I'd love to include it in our collection. For those in the US a first class ($0.34) stamp on a regular business envelope is all it typically takes to send in a patch. Thanks. Ray Terry P.O.
