Take what you have learned and grow with it, based on your commentary you already have a mental/philsophical edge over many MA who have trained much longer than you. We have seen similar results in KSW with the quality of BB declining, it started back in the late 80's when the $$$ started creaping in and quantity prevailed over quality. Fortunately we at NKMAA saw this coming and caught it before too much damage was done. You might say "Were back to the basics". There are still many out there who like the numbers and the moving up in rank over the discipline and application, yet even those MA eventually come around and see the light. Even one of my students, a second degree, has decided to finally part ways after several years of missing out. Anyway, take what you have learned and expand it by taking what you can from anyone who has something to offer. Best regards, Kevin M. And what u are saying is ksw in the U.S. b/c the martial art i learned as a kid is exactly the one u are looking for by leaving KSW. for Example: - -grades where only given when the student showed thw proper level ( master lee left me in green for like 3-4 y's) - -we practiced constantly with mitts - -hard full contact sparring was the norm, as well as some light contact for control purposes. - -we did practice air strikes, but also repeated every kind against a mitt. - -techniques (locks, etc) where done all the way. i don't mean until the guys joints broke but at least until the pain assuered that the tech was been done properly. Most of the "intellectuals" that I have had experience with could not execute a simple joint lock or arm bar. I think it's because they spend too much time researching and not enough time training. Some people spend several hours a day pounding on the keyboard. Others spend several hours a day pound on the mat. On a separate note. I recently finished giving Hapkido classes for a Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructors Course. A pretty tough bunch of guys, and a tough course they put together. It's an interesting system. Not much intellectualizing, but a few broken bones and a few cases of heat stress. Anybody else have experience with the Marines and their new Martial Art? These arts are VERY chinese and in fact, were transplants to Korea. Unless of course, Monk Lee, Sauk Kyu doesn't know what he is talking about. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 08 Nov 2001 18:22:06 PST Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #625 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
