Both Schools Culver City and Redondo Beach have traditional Tatami or mat. Todays Seminar is done and yes I got the old nasty blister back on again the ball of both feet... ( OUCH!!!!!) I am starting to walk like John Wayne... Although I taped the areas that were more likely to develop blisters....I must have taped it wrong because, all throught the Kumite the tape kept rubbing and moving, thus making it more worst. To Ray: Todays Seminar is a Shotokan Style Kumite.....However, I could not help the fact that almost all kicking tecniques resembled Taekwondo's Sparring Style. There were many types of switch stance with Lightning fast front kicks. ------------------------------ From: "Dizzy S." A martial artist, a visa card, and Amazon (or a good book store) don't mix hehehehehe. Also, thanks for naming off the forms. I'm off to Mac's site to see if they are on there (besides the Kicho's, Pyung ahn's, Bassai's and the Naihanchi's. I know them or will through my dojang). I wanna see what Sip Soo looks like, because it used to be one of our forms, but the IMA dropped it (or moved it .... still not sure). <<<>>> I knew that. How stupid of me to forget lol (everything, exept the last sentence). Thanks for the info anyways :o) <<<>>> Really? Kewlness :o) Kinda like us doin TSD (forms, one-steps, ect), and Hapkido (self defence). And I started Jujitsu on top of it (told ya, I love the arts *grins* ..... never thought I'd be two different color belts at the same time, let alone bein a white belt again lol). <<<>>> That's ok. I wanted to go last Sept, but didn't have the money to travel. But I have plenty of time to plan for next year :o) Thanks again, Charles. Tang Soo! I have another suggestion for this type of problem. I use a product called "Skin Shield, liquid bandage" on the balls of my feet, and this really works for me. the Skin Shield wears off as I train, (instead of my skin!) , and I seem to be able to avoid the nasty blisters I had when I first started training on the wooden floor of our Dojang. I tried the taping and bandages and all that stuff and could never get anything to stick to my feet through the whole three hours of class, so this was a real 'find' for me. You may have to apply it more than once during the seminar, but it's worth a shot! Just MHO! Myself having a heavy JKD concepts background, I'd be interested in hearing you expound on this a little. What particular concepts from the JKD framework are you applying to your TSD training? Does this involve modification of the "traditional" TSD techniques, or are you rather adopting JKD concepts training/combatives philosophies and expressing those philosophies with the traditional techniques of TSD. In my former training environment (and most of those I have observed), the concepts of JKD was most often expressed through Jun Fan kickboxing, western boxing, Filipino/Indonesian martial arts, Shooto, BJJ, and Savate. Those are logical choices for expression because their structures tend not to violate basic technical assumptions of JKD concepts (chambered fist on hip considered to be non-economical, etc.). I'd be interested to hear how you're doing this with TSD as a base structure. Just trying to start a dialogue, and get the flavor of your perspective. Feel free to contact offline if you don't want to take it up here.
