If you notice on the page I have shots of punching, kicking and meditation as well. I want to break the stereotype that all we do is kick from dusk till dawn. My GM teaches a well rounded curriculm. Begining Jan 1, 2002 - the USTU will no longer allow head kicks for ages 6-11. At 12 years old, black belts will be using Senior Rules. Additionally, the new WTF rules will be initiated at the US Open in 2002. This means that head kicks will be scored as 2 points and attacks which result in an 8 count or a knockdown will be given an additional point. KEY MEETING POINTS · No head contact for competitors between the age of six and eleven will be permitted. · Full contact for all competitors from the age of twelve and older will be permitted. · State Junior Championships and National Junior Championships will now officially recognize fourth place finishers as tournament medalists, except for the fourteen to seventeen black belt division which only recognizes three categories of winners. States are strongly encouraged to award medals to all fourth place finishers. · Juniors has been extended to seven days, June 30 through July 6th. · Two $5,000 scholarships will be given out at Juniors for two high school seniors going to college. The applicants will have to have a high academic standing, a National competition record and a record of community service. Applications will be sent to State Presidents shortly. · Regional competition is scheduled to begin in the year 2005 and the 1st place winner of regional competition will qualify for Team Trials. · Selection for Team Trials has eliminated the “wildcard” positions. · Team Trials will use a double elimination format instead of the current system. · The USTU will be looking for bids to host Team Trials competition from major US cities. The OTC will no longer be the site for the Team Trials. · US Nationals in Detroit has been expanded to five days, May 22 through May 26th. In conjunction with Nationals the USTU will also have a Color Belt Extravaganza, Junior Black Belt Festival and the new “Senior Division”. The terms Executive Senior Division and Golden Senior Division has been eliminated and replaced with “Senior Division” Additionally, there will be six Senior Divisions weight categories to proved more opportunity for “Seniors” to win a medal. · The 2004 Olympic Games will have four weight divisions, not six as had been rumored. However the number of competitors will be increased from 100 to 124. The format that the US will used to select our representatives is not known at this time. · The USTU will participate in the “Gladiator Games” in San Jose, CA which is being held the third week of July. These Games involve six “combat” sports: Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Fencing. Taekwondo will have four male and female divisions at this competition. · The USTU is starting a “Medal Bonus Program” which will award points to medalists at designated tournaments throughout the year. At the end of the years the competitors with the highest medal count will divide the money in the Medal Bonus Program. The bonus money will be divided in the following fashion: 1st place receives 40% of the money, 2nd place receives 30%, 3rd place receives 20% and fourth place receives 10% of the money. · Herb Perez (1988 Olympic Gold Medalist) was reinstated as a USTU member by acclamation. · The proposed amendment to add the NCTA President to the Executive Committee failed by a vote of thirty-four in favor and forty-four opposed. · The proposal to amend the bylaws to change the requirement for a State to hold elections from being required to have five registered clubs to one registered club failed by a vote of fifteen in favor to sixty-three opposed. Under the current bylaws, the President of the USTU will continue to appoint the State President if there are less than five registered clubs. · The proposed amendment to reduce the non-competitor dues from twenty dollars to fifteen dollars was tabled. · The proposed amendment to reduce the number of votes a school may have in the state election was also tabled. ------------------------------ From: DrgnSlyr5@aol.com Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 18:01:09 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #639 In a message dated 11/16/2001 12:33:04 PM Pacific Standard Time, the_dojang-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: > What a great thing to have happen to your instructor! GM Chong S. Kim was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1931. He trained under GM Yong-Sul Choi, Master Lee (tae kyon), and others. He is a contemporary of GMs Han-Jae Ji, Bong Soo Han, and Tae M. Kwon. He had three schools in Korea before coming to the U.S. in 1973. He established the Jang Mu Hapkido Association which presently includes seven Kim's Hapkido schools in Southern California. GM Kim is in great shape at 70 yrs old and still teaches six days a week in our headquarters school in Alhambra, CA. The "Instructor of the Year" article is a full page in the Jan/2002 issue of Black Belt Magazine. Mr. Young brought some advance copies of the magazine to the dinner ceremony, so we got a chance to glance at it. I don't know what exactly will be in the Yearbook. As for his approach to Korean MT/Hapkido, would you narrow the question(s) down for me, please? I'm not sure what it is you would like to know.
