The first one (yellow) is probably the worst only because you don't have a clue what's going to happen. Getting nervous is fine. You're supposed be a little stressed for this kind of thing. However wired I get before a test, the butterflies always disappear as soon as we get going. Someone already said this, but it is worth mentioning again (I'm usually a day or two behind on the DD, but felt compelled to comment anyway) - --- You are probably a lot more ready than you give yourself credit for. Your instructor thinks you are ready. S/he has been watching you for the last four months and would not invite you to test if you weren't prepared. Before my last test (1st Dan WTF TKD) in May, I was fine until the day before. Then my stomach started tying itself up in knots. Well, I showed up for the test, we ran some warmup laps around the building and by the time we came back inside I had forgotten all about being nervous. I wound up having a great test. So, just try to relax. Do something completely different to take your mind off of the test. You'll do fine. I am only a white belt (soon to be doing my first grading too) so i don't even know if they are really shaolin monks. So what do you think of them?" I don't cut them any more slack than I do any of the "MA experts" on this side of the Pacific. Personally, most of the stuff I've seen lately from "Shaolin Monks" looks like state approved Wu Shu to me. Beware, as there's more than a few groups running around calling themselves Shaolin Monks that have little to no links to the authentic temple arts of that namesake. Then again I'm not a big fan of traditional Chinese arts, so even if they WERE real monks...I'll let it go at that. As far as their stunts go...hey, if they think sucking a rice bowl to their stomach is evidence of fighting ability then more power to them. What's the general consensus on this guy? I have to admit that most of the stuff he shows in his articles and books looks pretty weak to my eye. Hey, he's got cool facial expressions though:) Seriously, what's the lowdown? Is he for real, or is he a poser? I am a little more confident now, and will face the challenge with courage. There is an issue that I would like everyone's feed back on. I have noticed that the black belts at my Dojang are becoming very arrogant and a little mean. I do not know if they are trying to make us stronger or trying to tell us in their way they are better than us. It seems that if you ask a black belt a question, at my Dojang, they answer very harsh and a little crude. Sometimes they raise their voices if a lower belt makes too many mistakes. Also, they seem to compete with each other. I thought at the Dojang, we are supposed to be like brothers and sisters? The GrandMaster and his son the Master, has addressed this issue many times. I find this a little hard to take, and I try not to talk back to the higher ranks if I feel they are being a little unfair. I have found myself avoiding some of the higher ranks because I do not want to confront anyone or cause friction in the school. I actually thought unity is something the higher ranks would want the lower ranks to follow, instead most of the white belts avoid the higher belts which robs us of our learning potential. Any advise or feed back would be appreciated.
