His films, I think, say the most about the man. You can find them at: http://www.scottshaw.com/films/ His film "Ride with the Devil" probably tells us the most. You can find this write up at: http://www.scottshaw.com/ride/ It is as follows: "RIDE WITH THE DEVIL was originally filmed as GHOST TAXI in the autumn of 1996. The film Stars SCOTT SHAW as Daredevil Dan Donovan - a Taxi Driver given a second chance to raise himself from the dark abyss by driving thirteen deserving candidates to Hell. Famed B-Movie Director FRED OLEN RAY is one of the lucky cab fares. The project was never completed and put on the shelf. Two years later a distribution company wanted a film starring SCOTT SHAW and JULIE STRAIN. The film went back up, and was completed by adding scenes with Julie and her husband, KEVIN EASTMAN, creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Publisher/Editor of Heavy Metal Magazine. Scott, being a very spiritual person, never approved of the final version which was released to the public, as he felt it became far too dark - losing all of the spontaneous joking fun of the original version." On the other hand, Scott is not so spiritual that he doesn't immediately follow this disclaimer with a link to Amazon so you can buy a copy. And his spirituality seems lacking in some of his other titles, although I haven't seen any of them. Some of the releases of "No Mercy Productions" include: 1. Guns of El Chupacabra: "One blood thirsty monster, one space sheriff, and one million bullets" 2. Samurai Vampire: Bikers from Hell. 3. Rock n Roll Cops: "With a guitar in one hand and a gun in the other, they kick Hollywood's butt!" 4. Shotgun Boulevard 5. Armageddon Boulevard 6. The Roller Blade Seven and of course... 7. Lingerie Kickboxer He calls himself Dr. Shaw and has claimed to have a Ph.D. in "Asian Studies." The only thing I can find that on Dissertation Abstracts (the database for most doctoral dissertations since 1861) that comes close to this claim is a Master's degree to a Scott Shaw out in California for a thesis on modern French erotic literature and how it relates to yin and yang. The full citation is below: PUBLICATION NUMBER AAT 1387545 TITLE Marguerite Duras and Charles Bukowski: The yin and yang of twentieth century erotic literature (France) AUTHOR Shaw, Scott DEGREE MA SCHOOL CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, DOMINGUEZ HILLS DATE 1997 PAGES 155 ISBN 0-591-64559-9 SOURCE MAI 36/02, p. 346, Apr 1998 SUBJECT: LITERATURE, MODERN (0298); LITERATURE, COMPARATIVE (0295); LITERATURE, AMERICAN (0591); LITERATURE, ROMANCE (0313) DIGITAL FORMATS  5.31Mb image-only PDF In their literature Marguerite Duras and Charles Bukowski each presented unique autobiographical voices: female and male respectively. From these voices one often finds their literature defining the realms of modern eroticism. It is the purpose of this thesis to prove that Marguerite Duras and Charles Bukowski were each dramatically shaped by their early life experiences. From their early negative exposure and emotional indoctrination to life, Duras and Bukowski each developed as individuals who, at a young age, acted out behavior which was in direct conflict with the commonly accepted standard of their individual societal norms. From the moment these authors made the adolescent choices which they did, the rest of their physical, emotional, and ultimately literary existence was defined. In order to substantiate the facts of this thesis the biographical texts, autobiographical works, and the self-revealing literature of these two authors are studied.   - ------------------ What is really interesting to me is how many good reviews of Scott's books are to be found on Amazon.com. The people I've talked to have uniformly agreed that the books are awful, but they're apparently not writing the reviews. The one that really puzzles me is the one for "Samurai Zen" that reads: "As a Professor of East Asian Studies, of Japanese descent, and a practitioner of Kendo, I love this book. I plan to use it one of my classes. The history of Zen Buddhist absorption by the Samurai chapter is historically accurate and very revealing. The Ki, Meditation, and Sensitivity techniques which are taught in this text are something which the average person is not normally exposed to and can really help anyone who decides to practice them. The Iaido section is also very good as it teaches that the sword is no longer simply an instrument of war but a tool which can be used, by anyone, as a meditation device." This reviewer identifies himself only as "A reader from Chicago." Why am I skeptical of the veracity of this review?
