How many of you instructors include firearms ski >lls other than disarms (anything from safety to operation to tactics) in your > martial programs? I have another question, how do you instructors who do incorporate weapons self-defense into programmes approach the issue of when to use a gun? I had an argument with a friend from Nevada who claimed that since he could carry a gun, he didn't need to learn other self-defense tactics. I disagreed saying he needed to get the assailant far enough away to get the gun out, aim, presumably get it ready too (I know zip about guns) before firing. What do you think? I witnessed a Red Belt fail a test at our main school. The young man showed no control during sparring and repeatedly kicked his opponent hard. He was told several times this was not a tounament (no gear, etc) and to lighten up. His attitude was disrespectful and arrogant. One of the visiting Grandmasters took his test form (what the Masters use to grade each student) wadded it up and threw it on the floor. I about croaked. Like you, I thought testings were more of a "Showing" then a "Testing", but this young man pushed the enevelope well beyond its ability to stretch. He deserved the failure. I have heard of a couple other color belt failures at our school, but in reality they are few and far between. I have seen instructors do pushups for their students blatant mistakes, so there is a motivating force for instructors to send students that are ready. dave weller student wtf tkd "Practice a thousand hours and you learn self discipline.
