I have been on it now about 2 and a half years and have only put back on about 20 pounds in the last 4 months because of numerous injuries,,, in which I have slowed down working out and jogging,,, but as I heal lately and pick up my workout pace I know the pounds will come back off with no problem,,, recent injuries include: torn bicep muscle in right arm,, numerous bone spurs on the cervical vertebrae causing pain and numbness down my right arm (keeps the bicep from hurting though!!),,, pulled groin and hip flexor muscle left side (this injury strongly affects your ability to do the bump and grind with the wife!!),,, pinched sciatic nerve on the opposite side of the hip flexor (this one really stinks and is hurting right now as I type),, and lately a bacterial infection in my left eye,,, dang you got to love Hapkido training huh!!! The weight gain is due to my own disgust and inactivity with my injuries and not at all a reflection of the eating regimen,,, it is easy to eat bread, doughnuts and cereal when your sciatic has you flat on your back watching reruns of CHIPS at 6 am!,, anyway I highly recommend the diet but NOT the injuries!!! I know some people don't believe in eating this way and that is cool I only know that it has worked for me and made me a million times healthier,,, the injuries are not due to the diet but because of my own hard charging training ways in which I stupidly push myself past my own recuperation threshold,, will I ever stop doing this? Probably not,, my wife calls me a big dumb animal that doesn't know when to go to the barn,, but that's ok,,, this attitude got me through 4 Hapkido black belt tests and approximately 2 thousand miles on the trails jogging in the last few years,, sometimes when I am sweaty and hurting but still moving I say to myself that I bet Master Whalen would have a smile on his face if he saw me now!!! I carried guns before, during and after I was a LEO (Nevada). People would ask me why a gun nut like me would be interested in Martial Arts. My answers were, 1) I needed something to fall back on if I ran out of ammo or had the gun malfunction and I couldn't run away. 2) From a legal perspective, if one is unlucky enough to kill someone with a MA tactic and you are carrying a gun, not using the gun shows that you were using reasonable restraint - if you really wanted to kill someone you would have used the gun (in the eyes of most people / jurors). 3) I didn't / don't always carry my gun. 4) It's good exercise and you meet great people in the Dojangs. Back to lurk mode. Interesting discussion so far but, without substance. There are several scenarios where firearms and open hand are important. 1. Are you at gun point hold up? 2. Are you hostage? 3. Are you being taken to another place at gun point? 4. Did your buddy just get capped and you are next in line? 5. Is your family in physical danger? 1. material things are never worth fighting (or dying) for. 2. most likely, survival depends on compliance while you seek the opportunity to escape. 3. never go there! 4 & 5. act immediately and aggressively. How many do you face? What kind of gun; revolver or automatic? How close are you? How much room do you have? Do the perps seems knowledgeable or crazed or scared? If you do get a disarm, do you know what to do next? Do you know small firearms operations? Do you know the law? Well, many sundry and varying opinions could be cast upon this subject.
