A very nice knife! MSRP of $59.99, but I found mine for $30 ($25+$5 S&H). You may even be able to do better. Great feel and heft, good size. And the LAWKS blade lock system is super. A marketing description of the model follows. http://www.crkt.com/ryansevn.html Ray Ryan's Model Seven was inspired by the Filipino barong. A deep finger choil gives exceptional grip, and the deep bellied blade provides superior cutting power. Knife build is our strong InterFrame construction, with dual 420J2 stainless steel liners, one locking, and 6061 T6 hard anodized aluminum back spacer. Torx fasteners are used throughout. The black textured Zytel scales are skeletonized in Ryan's trademark aggressive zig-zag pattern, for exceptional grip with less weight. This is a work tool that grips you back. The blade, of tough AUS 6M stainless steel, is ground to leave maximum metal at the blade center for strength. It is available in Razor-Sharp and Combination Triple-Point Serrated and Razor-Sharp edges. Deep thumb grooves aid grip. It pivots on Teflon bearings. Special massive oversized dual thumb studs are instantly available. To provide the maximum in security, we have incorporated the patented Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS), which effectively makes the Model Seven folder into a fixed blade when engaged. A custom removable Teflon plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip completes the Model Seven package. Blade: Overall length: 3.50" (8.9 cm) Cutting edge: 3.38" (8.6 cm) Thickness: 0.12" (0.30 cm) Steel: AUS 6M, 55-57 HRC Handle: Closed length: 4.50" (11.4 cm) Weight: 5.7 oz. Ray Forwarded message: From: Steve Klement Subject: eskrima: Most important lesson...? A student recently asked me a question that initially frustrated me do to the numerous possible answers. Now I consider this question a gift beyond measure as it brought me that much closer to my teacher. He asked me what I thought the most important lesson our Grandmaster (Suro Mike Inay) ever taught me was. We were having dinner and after that question I don't think I took another bite. Though I'm not certain I yet have the "one" answer for myself or for my student, I do know that the question brought back many memories of Suro as he taught me so many things - most of which were way beyond the usual classroom stuff. For that, I am in debt to this student (once again). I suppose if I had to answer right now I would say that the one most important lesson he shared would be to understand respect and to respect all others for what they are and for what they have to offer. In doing this (he told me) I would learn to respect myself as I learned what my worth was. Anyway, I rarely post questions here but this one did so much for me I thought some of you might benefit as well. So to repeat my students curiosity - What is the most important thing your Instructor ever taught you? Have fun remembering back... I would like one with charts showing meridians and pressure points and information about how they work and are affected when hit. Also about healing by pressure points etc. I have been looking at the two books bt Earle Montaigue. Has anyone read these? DBN Chris ------------------------------ From: KodanjaClay@aol.com Date: Tue, 15 Jan 2002 06:39:28 EST Subject: the_dojang: Feud Mr. Sims, I have a couple of comments about the posting about the "feud" as you so eloquently put it. Although, I know all about this event as a personal friend to one of the parties involved, Dr. Hackworth, I am shocked and amazed that Mr. Whalen would stoop so low as to send out this exchange to attempt to involve the entire Hapkido Community. Granted these two individuals may have a problem with one another, but I suggest that it remain their personal business. Simply because Mr. Whalen chose to be, in my opinion, rather juvenile by sending this out to everyone he knows, does not mean that it in the least concerns me or us. And, by far, Mr. Whalen is not as innocent as he would have you believe. From my understanding, Mr. Whalen has made some interesting comments about me at the KHF HQ while he was there last. Please bear in mind, I have never met this individual, nor even spoken to him in real time. Did I bring this here? Of course not. It has nothing to do with you or anyone else on this list. Mr. Whalen, Might I suggest you learn what is important and what is not? A personal arguement between two people is not really important enough to bring to a public forum, in fact, it not only has nothing to do with the forum, it is tasteless. Just a correction. What I saw was not sent out by Master Whalen, but by others. However I must admit that what appeared to be juvenile was the attack against Master Whalen. All I can say is that if the mail sent to Master Whalen was in fact sent by another Hapkidoin, it is a sad sad day for Hapkido and the KMA that someone would threaten to write letters in an attempt to take away someone's rank. IMHO, it should be settled more honorably, face-to-face, not by hiding behind a keyboard and sending off letters to Korea. I have talked to Master Whalen and I have meet Dr. Hackworth. Both seem to be reasonable people. I hope on both counts that I am correct in that assessment. If I can help as a go between here, I'd be glad to assist in any way.
