The coalition, "The History Education Asia Network," to be inaugurated in Tokyo on Feb. 2, will provide a solid basis for mapping out long-term strategies to prevent Japan from whitewashing her wartime atrocities in school textbooks, organizers said. Participating groups include the Korean Civilian Movement for Correction of Japanese Textbooks, which represents some 80 organizations in Korea, and about 10 Japanese civic groups, including the Children and Textbook Japan Network 21, Peace Boat and the Violence Against Women in War-Network Japan. "We hope China and North Korea will also eventually join the coalition," said Yang Mi-gang, director of the Korean Council for the Women Drafted For Military Sexual Slavery By Japan, who will take part in Saturday's inauguration ceremony. At the ceremony, participants are expected to issue a statement calling for an unswerving alliance among Asian countries to settle the textbook dispute and promote peace in the region. "One of the first projects of our network will be the development of a joint history textbook," said Yang. The network will also play a pivotal role in organizing an international symposium on the distorted textbook issue slated for late March in Nanjing, China, she said. Some of Japanese middle school history textbooks justify imperial Japan's invasions of neighboring countries, sexual slavery and the use of slave labor. --__--__-- Message: 4 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 20:01:57 -0800 (PST) Subject: [The_Dojang] NK TKD Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Somewhat interesting info on North Korean (ITF) TKD vs. South Korean (WTF). :) http://nk.chosun.com/english/news/news.html?ACT=detail&cat=5&res_id=5011 Ray --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang It's a great day for Taekwondo!
