It just makes me scratch my head when these folks want to debate or try to invalidate what people like Doju Nim Ji or Dr. He Young Kimm says,, it doesn't make good sense to me. This is continous, "light" contact with the head being a legal target for both hands and feet. The ITF also uses a differntial (sp?) scoring system: 1 point for a kick or punch to body 1 point for a punch to the head 2 points for a kick to the head 2 points for a flying punch to the head 3 points for a flying kick to the head Intenational competition is two - two minute rounds up to finals. Finals are generally two - three minute rounds or 3 - two minute rounds. Sparring is continous with stops only to issue warnings or minus points. I used to smoke. As a matter of fact it is one of the things that kept me from getting my TKD black belt back in '85. I couldn't reconcile the spiritual nature of the black belt award with being out of control enough to smoke cigarettes. I quit TKD two weeks prior to by black belt testing. I will not make that mistake when it comes time to take my HKD black belt testing. I always found the best way to quit was to wean myself to the lowest tar and nicotine brand I could find; for me that was Merits. From there I could jump off cold turkey. I always seemed to migrate to 1.5 packs per day when I smoked. At the time I quit last I had worked my way to four cigarettes per day, mostly OPCs. It was during that time that I didn't take my black belt class. I used work as an excuse but the biggest reason was the cigarettes. I haven't smoked since that time because I quit shortly there after. Heck, they even have 12 step programs for giving up smoking these days. Not a whole lot of excuse to smoke considering the consequences. -Lee Tucson --__--__-- Message: 7 From: Ray Terry Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Tang Sou Dao Int To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 01 Feb 2002 14:50:36 PST Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > Just fyi... > > Tang Sou Dao International > http://www.tangsoudao.com P.S. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net 2nd notice. Thus far one person requested and received this change. Anymore? Ray ======================================================================= With the new format of the_dojang it should now be easy to open subscription up to those that would like a non-digestified version. i.e. the msgs would come individually instead of bunched together in an issue of the digest. The last time we checked into this (a couple years ago) only a handful of people were interested in that. But it is time to check again. If you'd like that type of subscription please drop me a private email at the addr below. Thanks. The arrival brought the total number of defectors to arrive in the South this year to 44. The defectors include a former South Korean prisoner of war, held in the North since the 1950-53 Korean War. The NIS identified the latest prisoner of war as Kim Jong-wan, 73, who was captured on the frontline during the war. He had been working in a coalmine before escaping the communist country late last year. Kim's return brought to 24 the number of South Korean prisoners of war to return home after fleeing the North so far. The 12 others, including a 28-year-old factory worker named Kim Young-shil, fled their famine-stricken homeland between March 1997 and July 2000 and stayed in a third country, the NIS said. The number of North Korean defectors has been on the sharp rise in recent years with 148 in 1999, 312 in 2000 and 583 last year. --__--__-- Message: 10 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 01 Feb 2002 21:26:41 PST Subject: [The_Dojang] European tour Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Inayan Systems International (ISI) Eskrima European tour with Masirib Guro Emanuel Hart (hart@inayaneskrima.com).
