Hello Dan: I remember being at a TKD tournament held in the school of Master Park Jong Soo in Toronto. At this tournament, I believe it was in 1972 or '73, GM Joon Rhee introduced the prototype of his safety punch. It was a white foam rubber tube that you slipped your fist into, and you grabbed a shoe lace that was hooked through two holes on the business end of the tube. After the event, GM Choi Hong Hi presented the trophies to the winners. The tournament was a forerunner of the very popular North American Tae Kwon Do Championships usually held at the Varsity Stadium. Lots of good talent at that tournament, and you did not even have to rent a U Haul to take the trophy home. Modest size trophies, and Major talent -- what a deal:) Park's tournament was a refreshing change from the CNE tournaments hosted by my old friend, GM Tsuruoka. The CNE event was about the only other tournament going back then (probably the first in the late sixties in that area of Canada), and for us Korean stylists it was difficult to get a point for anything other that the good ol reverse punch. Ah, the good ole days when no one complained about being on the receiving end of a solid hit. Thanks for the memories:) Sincerely, Rudy --__--__-- Message: 2 From: TKDgalSamm@aol.com Date: Sat, 2 Feb 2002 15:39:21 EST To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: The_Dojang digest, Vol 9 #48 - 8 msgs Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net In a message dated 2/1/2002 4:05:43 AM Central Standard Time, the_dojang-request@martialartsresource.net writes: > How'd you do it? It gave me a rash too, but I was able to use it for a few weeks and moved it around a lot. I keep mints in the car and with me in case of a trigger, but now that I've been quit a while, I don't even think about it. More than anything, I think if you WANT to quit REAL bad you can. Smoking has embarassed me for a long time. I wanted to be a NON smoker worse than I wanted to be a smoker. Last of all, I always think of reasons I am happy I don't smoke ... like when it is POURING rain outside and I'm in a building where I had to go outside to smoke :) It's great to be dry and inside :D Loretta --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ray Terry Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Re: The_Dojang digest, Vol 9 #48 - 8 msgs To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sat, 02 Feb 2002 13:32:38 PST Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Please remember to update/change the subject line. i.e. when doing a simple reply to a digest issue you'll end up with a subject line similar to this one. Not too meaningful. After doing the reply, just change the subject line to be, say in the case of trying to break the smoking habit, 'breaking up is hard to do'.
