I am excited to spend some time with everyone, and I hope the weather for the drive down is OK. Otherwise, there will be three of us using cane techniques:) Sincerely, Rudy --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2002 08:01:38 -0600 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net From: Dave Weller Subject: [The_Dojang] Nuking the ciggies Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I quit smoking 6-26-91. I had "stopped" a thousand times before. I used the patch, gum, everything imaginable and nothing helped. Watched 2 uncles (blood uncles) die of Emphysema. That is NOT the way to go... Imagine yourself being suffocated a little at a time every day.. Horrid! One uncle smoked up to the time he died. Even smoked when he was on oxygen, claimed it was the only time he could "enjoy" a smoke. The combination of a 1 year old boy in the house that I love more than anything, watching blood relatives be killed by ciggies, and a general sense of disgust with myself that I didn't have the will power to overcome a stupid tube of tobacco were the things that steeled my resolve to quit once and for all. I decided on the day early in the year (one day after my birthday) and every day I would give my self a pep talk about quitting on that day. I smoked all I wanted up til "the day", in fact more than ever. The previous evening I had my last smoke threw the pack away and never looked back. My wife continued to smoke for a couple of years but it never bothered me to have her smoke around me. I never felt uncomfortable during withdrawal, just a little edgy, but that receded in about a week. As several others who commented on this have noted the mental battle is the largest one. You must convince your mind you are quitting. I do have an occasional craving, but they are fleeting. And at times I have dreams (nightmares) that I've started again... feel rotten the next morn until I realize it's only been a dream. Good luck in quitting, the rewards of NOT smoking are much greater than the penalties FOR smoking!! dave weller student wtf tkd "Practice a thousand hours and you learn self discipline. We all know that most of your High Ranking Grandmasters were associated with the General before the split. When the WTF came along and was supported by the Govt. all the Masters thought it would be best for them to change over. I think we should give credit to both organizations. I am Kukkiwon ceritified and I teach ITF style and WTF forms. I think they both are good. I certify my black belts with the International Tae Kwon Do Union, founded By Master Merritt, but my students still my be certified with the Kukkiwon if they would like. To me paper is paper. You are only paying for paper. Now if you want to spend hundreds of dollars and certify with all these different groups than do so. As long as you know you are the rank you have on your wall. I don't care for all the politics with Tae Kwon Do. I have certification from several Tae Kwon Do organizations and they all are very dear to me. I am teaching my current black belts to research all the political mess with ITF/WTF and let them choose who they would like to go with. How can you mention the History of TAe Kwon Do and not menton Gen. Choi? You must be crazy! All I add is let's forget about all this and keep teaching like we have been doing. Kuk Sool DBN Chris<<<<< The Encyclopedia of Dim Mak, and the second volume The Extra Meridians, Points, and More by Erle Montaigue and Wally Simpson have charts on the meridians. The first is a pretty big book, over 400 pages, while the second book is only 125. Simpson has a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, while Montaigue has a long history in the internal Chinese arts. However, I don't know anything about them other than what is written in the introductions. But they do seem to both have good credentials and knowledge. As I said, the first book is long, over 400 pages, and has a lot of information. Chapters are broken into the different meridians. (Ch. 1 Gallbladder Meridian, 2 Liver Meridian, 3 Kidney Meridian and so forth.) There are a lot of drawings of where these meridians run and the points along them. There are also ample photographs showing how to strike these points. The second book is the same way, with drawings and photos, but much shorter. There are many points, and the way the book is written is like this: >From page178 BL 42 (Bladder Point No. 42) Chinese name Pohu (Soul's household) Location 3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra. Used for pulmonary tuberculosis, cough, asthma, neck rigidity, pain in the shoulder and back, bronchitis, loeurisy, and atelectasis (collapsed lung). Connections: None Direction of Strike: Straight in to the back Damage: ... Set up point: ... Antdote .. Healing ... Applications: ..... I didn't type everything, but those are the headings and how each point is described. So it really is like an encyclopedia, and not a book you just sit and read through cover to cover. Hope this helps. Many Traditional Chinese Medicine texts also have the meridians, etc. Yours in Training, Alain Burrese www.burrese.com --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang It's a great day for Taekwondo!
