I've head of chewing the scenary, and of sinking your teeth into a serious subject, but is this the term you wanted to use? Come to think of it, this is a 'digest' after all...Food for thought? Save up and buy them both; they're worth it. David N. Matriculate, v, -lat-ed, -lat-ing; to enroll or admit to membership and priviledges by enrolling, esp in a college or university; to be matriculated; a person who has been matriculated. Seems appropriate. Do most of your schools put the students name on with embroidery? I was so upset I cried, and I am not one to cry over a material possession. After all the many hours spent training, helping trian lower belts in clinics, competeting in tornaments and helping with testing in my school, along with the sweating and bruising, I just want the belt to be right. I have been assured that it will be corrected but I was just wondering how often this happens? If you embroider your students belts, how do you handle errors? Thank you. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. --__--__-- Message: 10 Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2002 08:59:20 -0800 (PST) From: Sun Mu Kwan-USA To: Dojang digest Subject: [The_Dojang] Kuk Sool Won Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net <> Well then again I wasn't really seeking them out either. I thought I would see a lot, just as you would expect to see hapkido schools. I'm looking at the Kido Hae's advertisement in tkd digest but I don't see the listing for Busan area at all either. I thought they had a listing for something in Busan. Anyway, I will be traveling to Korea in June and I will make it a point to seek out a kuk sool won school. ===== International HKD Federation-Sun Mu Kwan USA www.ushankido.org Send FREE Valentine eCards with Yahoo! It may be true that the term(s) used maybe what you say (for that time period), there is no dispute about that. It is true that "Hapkido" was in its developmental stage and several labels surfaced until the agreed upon term Hapkido (which was used in various combinations with the other terms/labels, until it was abbreviated and agreed upon by all of what this art should be called). Remember, there was conflict with the forced Japanese culture upon the people of Korea (even those influences were very distinctive in the birth of the modern Korean martial arts systems, therefore the labeling issues). Again, GM Song was a part of that historic era and still is to this day. He is not a household name here in the United States, but he is known by some well-known Korean-American martial artists, if they admit it or not. (I define those individuals who have been here in the United States for well over 15 years and have established themselves as experts of Korean martial arts here in this country). If you like, you can take a trip to Suwon, ROK and speak with the man himself. He is well known in the ROK or you can visit him at KHF HQ when he is conducting the Masters Training Course or Weapons Course. Hap Ki ! Gary Pointer Send FREE Valentine eCards with Yahoo! Kuk Sool Hapkido was around in the > 1960s and 1970s. > I guess some people are still doing it. The late Dan Rogers told me that he > used to practice > Kuk Sool Hapkido under Dr. He-Young Kimm. Actually, Dr. Kimm was a MooSul Kwan HapKiDo practitioner, and along with his friend since childhood, Mr. Park, Lee-Hyun of Cape Girardeau, MO, formed the original "American HapKiDo Association" but then became associated with Mr. Suh, In-Hyuk in the late 70's when the term "KukSulWon" first came on the scene. I can remember meeting Master Rogers at a tournament in Lafayette, LA, around 1994, where Dr. Kimm, Mrs. Master West and I did a demonstration. While Dr. Kimm was explaining his books, Master Rogers introduced himself to Dr. Kimm for what seemed to be the first time, or at least that's the way it sounded by the conversation, so I doubt that there was much prior contact, and I can't recall Dr. Kimm ever teaching "KukSul HapKiDo".
