Sorry but we have to postpone the 1st Saturday of the month training sessions for a few months. Event conflicts and securing a new space are the causes. I will keep you posted but there seems to be something on almost every weekend between now and Nationals in July. Remember to coach or officiate you must be certified for the current year. If you have not taken the refresher clinic since Sept. 2001 you must do so to coach or officiate this year! We are dearly in need of qualified officials for our upcoming events so please get yourself certified. The next clinic will be on Sunday, April 14th at the Academy of Tae Kwon Do 988 Oak St. (at Scott St.) S.F., CA 94117 from 1 to 6 P.M. I will also be conducting a clinic on Friday evening, April 19th for Master Sullivan in the Fresno area. Contact him for additional information at pauls@madnet.net. Master Im will probably need a clinic in the LA area before his qualifier on Saturday, May 25th. Contact Master Im at (562) 865-8300 for details. Master Dunphy will be hosting the Pacific Assoc. Qualifier on Sat. June 1st at Aptos H.S. in Aptos, CA and he will probably host a clinic the night before; he can be reached at (831) 722-0963. If you intend to coach or officiate at Nationals or J.O.'s you not only have to be certified locally, you must also work a local event prior to Nationals or J.O.'s. Please keep that in mind. AAU CALIFORNIA STATE TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS are set from Sat., May 11th at USF. We will need the assistance of every official who is part of the program. Please, in fact, pretty please! Mark this date on your calendar and please be there for breakfast at around 8:30 A.M. and be prepared to spend the day. I need you to make the tournament a success but more importantly, the athletes need you to be there to guarantee a fair, well officiated competition. We have the best officiating crew in the AAU and two of our officials will be receiving awards for their outstanding service. I am not saying who so you must be there to find out; it could be you!!! If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me or call me at (415) 864-4827. I will look forward to seeing all of you at one of the clinics and definitely at States. Peace. Yours in Taekwondo, Bill Dewart --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 05 Apr 2002 18:51:45 PST Subject: [The_Dojang] NK Mission to Visit Seoul Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net NK Mission to Visit Seoul During World Cup April 5, 2002 South and North Korea have reached agreements on exchanging high-level delegations, reviving the reunions of separated families and holding economic talks, providing a breakthrough in stalled inter-Korean rapprochement. The agreement was reached at the end of lengthy talks between South Korean special envoy Lim Dong-won and North Korea leader Kim Jong-il in Pyeongyang. Presidential envoy Lim, who was expected to return home through the truce village of Panmunjeom on Friday (April 5), will leave Pyeongyang Saturday. The South and the North are expected to release a joint press release on the inter-Korean accord on Saturday. Lim's return was put off because the South and the North needed more time to give final touch on the joint press release, Seoul officials said. Earlier, the two Koreas agreed to resume the reunion of separated families in Seoul and Pyeongyang before the end of this month and to finish the construction work on the 8-km North Korean zone of the inter-Korean railway linking Seoul to Sinuiju in the North. The second inter-Korean economic cooperation talks will be held later this month. The first meeting took place in Pyeongyang in December 2000. Seoul and Pyeongyang will exchange high-level delegations during the Arirang Festival and the FIFA World Cup finals to be held in the North and the South, respectively. Lim's Pyeongyang visit is expected to activate inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation considerably, which have come to a virtual standstill over the past year. Although the South and the North showed some differences over security issues, the North Korean authorities eventually accepted many of the South's demands for implementing inter-Korean agreements. In return, it has secured the South's cooperation during the April 29-June 29 Arirang Festival, a massive cultural event celebrating, among other things, the 90th birthday of the late leader Kim Il-sung. Lim met North Korean leader Kim Jong-il Thursday evening and delivered President Kim Dae-jung's letter, in which President Kim expressed hope for peace on the Korean peninsula. South Korea is expected to provide the North with 300,000 tons of grain in aid, which it pledged to do so last year. An equally large amount of fertilizer could also be shipped to the North as the planting season is approaching. Observers said the resumption of inter-Korean talks and exchanges on the peninsula could also lead the North to entering into sincere dialogue with the U.S. and Japan. Washington has repeatedly asked Pyeongyang to come to the dialogue table to resolve the North's suspected development of long-range missiles and other weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Pyeongyang has resisted the offer so far. The standoff has led officials in the South to worry about a potential security crisis on the peninsula after President Kim Dae-jung's term expires early next year. Next year marks the end of Pyeongyang's self-imposed moratorium on missile tests. It is the target finishing date for the construction of two nuclear reactors being built by a U.S.-led consortium in North Korea. The project by the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) is some five years behind schedule. North Korea has demanded additional compensation for the delay, besides 500,000 tons of diesel oil in aid each year. At the first-ever summit of the two Koreas in June 2000, President Kim Dae-jung and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il struck a five-point agreement in Pyeongyang, heralding an era of rapproachement and cooperation between the long-time foes. Kim Jong-il promised to pay a return visit to Seoul in the landmark agreement but has yet to make the trip. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 05 Apr 2002 20:55:54 PST Subject: [The_Dojang] Spam Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Sorry to report that this spam continues to be received by some of you.
