For the 2002-2003 academic year, colleges or universities located in the southeastern United States with few offerings or small programs on Korea are particularly encouraged to apply. NEAC will provide the lecturer's honorarium and travel expenses. The institutions are expected to make all local arrangements for the lecturer, including the provision of meals and lodging expenses. Please direct inquiries to Roger L. Janelli, Lecture Coordinator, Committee on Korean Studies, NEAC, at janelli@indiana.edu. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 20:00:13 PDT Subject: [The_Dojang] Hapkido history ??? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Thought Bruce would get a kick out of this... This passes for Hapkido history on a UK Hapkido website: "In 1904 Japan invaded Korea. After conquering the country, Japan imposed martial law banning all martial arts. Masters of the martial arts were forced to hide in the remote monastries and mountains in order to preserve and pass on their knowledge to disciples; only in this way could they carry on the martial art tradition of passing their ancestors skills to the next generation." "The martial art ban lasted 36 years until 1945. Choi, Young Sool was one of those masters who took to the mountains with him the skills of Hapkido. During his 36 years in the mountains he developed and modernized Hapkido..." Those Brits... what a bunch of crazy nuts. :) Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 22:29:34 -0500 From: Rob Lane To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Just saying hello!
