Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net With all the talk about Fort Collins, can someone let me know what's going on up there MA-wise...ideas, school recommmendations, etc? I'm moving up that way in July, and I'd like to get an idea as to what's going on. Thanks, Darin J. I hope to one day have the pleasure of seeing first hand your superior "Academic Hapkido". Having not seen your performance at the Ft. Collins seminar first-hand, I can only offer my "opinion" that you are probably much better at pounding out Hapkido on a keyboard in the safe little world of your own than actually performing the techniques. As for your comments about GM Ji's Hapkido; Thank God it is a free country, and you have the right to your opinion. However, you had the chance at this seminar to explain the Bruce Sims Academic Hapkido philosophy to the man himself, and for whatever reason, could not find it in yourself to approach him man to man. Too bad. And for you to now waste taxpayers money ( Bruce.Sims@med.va.gov) pounding on the keyboard for personal reasons all day at work is an issue for the IG. At any rate, I'm sure the Dojang Digest world can now see you for what you are. Don't go away mad Bruce, just go away. Kim explains that many of Hapkido's progenitors and originator's were simple men. In other words, it was enough to know that kicking a particular spot hurt, the histological components of the excretia were not the topic of discussion. IMHO there are three types of Martial performers; The Martial Thug - places value mostly on the brutal "effective" method, is a self-absorbed student and a terrible teacher. The Martial Artist - values the teachers, teachings, and trappings, is an average student and can be a good teacher. The Martial Engineer - values minutia, physics, body mechanics, is a pain in the ass as a student, and a pain in the ass as a teacher. Martial Arts have no personality - the people training provide that.
