I think you guys are exposing yourselves for who you are not just Bruce!!!! Lets give the guy a break and maybe even talk about the issues he has brought up about bio mechanics and angles. Maybe it is only one particular instructor/organization that does that. In the Japanese and Korean styles I've studied, I've always called it Bassai. I do know some of the TKD styles call it Pal-sek. It was originally called Naifanchen. Koreans do not have the "f" sound... so becomes Naihanchi/naihanji. The time for both days is 10am to 6pm I have attached flyers and registration forms. You can also go to my website at www.hapkidojang.com and download anything you need. You can also register and pay by credit card online in a secure environment. All are invited to attend and any support you can offer in promoting this event would be great. I need 30 people to run the event. Sign up asap and let me know if you have any questions. GM Ji puts on a great seminar and trains hard. It's sure to be an awsome weekend. I hope to see you all there Sincerely, Mike _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --__--__-- Message: 5 From: "michael tomlinson" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sun, 12 May 2002 16:38:52 +0000 Subject: [The_Dojang] Bruce's World Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Jesse Sergovia's Zen analysis was excellent, I think that is totally in line with what probably happened,,, again, I never had a problem with Bruce not liking Doju Nim Ji's training,,my thing is that how can you be critical about something you couldn't even finish? Well, enough said from my point of view, again no disrespect or negativity intended but when I see this kind of thing regardless of Who the trainer and trainees are, I don't think it is right. I went to an ICHF seminar once and was unimpressed also,, but I did every technique, stayed the whole time,, kept my mouth shut and tried to learn,, I did come away with one new drill that I still use, now that was cool, and even though I don't agree with some of that orgs. practices and training I never showed any disrespect, the people training were very nice and were thirsting for real Hapkido and I respect that, there was only one thing that I didn't do after 6 hours of training,,,, I did NOT get into the group picture or have any pictures taken at all. I'd like to take a group over for some HKD training, sight seeing and cultural learning. It will be a bit longer before I can offer this to people, and prices and such will have to be figured out. But it is in the works. I'll be taking some notes this summer when I am over there to help with these future plans. Now, a question for the list: For you to take a trip like this, what would you want? How long, what kinds of things to do, how much HKD, how much seeing other things, etc. Would you want to stay in five star hotels, or the inexpensive yogwan type? How much free time to do whatever you want? How much time in Seoul? What kind of price would you expect to pay? (Of course, some of this depends on the going rate for air fare, hotels, etc.) Thanks for any comments. I'll put them in my file as I make this happen. On the other hand, I've heard you use the censorship/derision/"company line" complaint often enough to wonder if it might be a negative attitude problem (built up from years of getting the same response) that might be keeping you from getting the answers you seek. I know I'm not always in the best mood when solicitors call seeking information, but some make it easier to help than others. If you know who you need to talk to, perhaps a different (softer) approach is called for. If not, then I'm sure this list can help in finding the best source. As for your attitude concerning the seminar, I ALWAYS respect my elders. Respectfully yours, David --__--__-- Message: 8 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Sun, 12 May 2002 10:19:14 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [The_Dojang] offline please, and thank you Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Ok folks... Please, enough on the GM Ji/Bruce thing. All relevant points have been raised. Time to move forward. Take it offline if necessary. Thanks for understanding. Ray Terry --__--__-- Message: 9 From: "Dana Vaillancourt" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sun, 12 May 2002 18:06:21 +0000 Subject: [The_Dojang] An impartial observation [or discard my two cents, but don't throw it at me] Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I hate to admit it, but I feel a little sorry for Bruce. People asked his opinion and he gave it [admittedly he is never shy!!]. I like and respect my instructors, and I feel a little disgruntled when someone does not talk flattering about them. However, my instructors are people and can be less than perfect; I know I can. They can also take care of themselves. I feel that Bruce has a right to express his opinion, particularly when asked. His opinion, obviously, is his own. I believe what Bruce meant about the CO seminar was that he did not particularly enjoy it. I inferred that his initial impression before he got there was that Sin Moo Hapkido was not to his liking, and, that his impression was not changed once he left. Whether his cup was full or empty, perhaps only Bruce knows. Regardless, I give him some credit for at least going to the seminar to see first-hand if this was a venue that interested him. My objection to the personal attacks on Bruce's opinion is because he spoke not glowingly of an individual that many on the list admire and some, adore. Why attack Bruce? Your opinion of your instructor has not changed, perhaps only your opinion of Bruce. I would hate to see Bruce leave the list by being ostracized like another list may do just for having a contrary opinion, admit ably a non-popular one. Most Grandmasters have withstood the test of time and like all people, some like and chose to follow them and others do not. Not everyone teaches the way I chose to. Cup full or empty? Personal preference? I guess if Bruce attacked someone outright, that would not be nice. If he just expresses his opinion, weigh the context and move on. I have no real side in this and really did not want to weigh in, but it seems to be getting too personal. [And I guess I could not mind my own business after-all!] My 2 cents, your exchange rate may vary.
