Most TKD students don't know. >> What many people don't realize is that straight TKD is a sport. Many instructors do, however, add elements of other styles to the curriculum to give the activity a more well-rounded feel. I never expect the TKD students entering our school to know anything about practical application. If they do, it's certainly a rarity. TKD is not a martial art, so there is little call for them to understand how their movements apply. (I do, however, watch out for their high round kicks :0 ) A new family of TKDers joined our school and most of them wished to begin at a level higher than white belt. They soon found that, although there were similarities in technique, they really were not as advanced as even our most junior belts (although, as I said, they all had mean round kicks :0 ) They had no idea of the scientific basis, i.e., physiological, anatomical and mathematical, elements inherent in truly practicing a martial art. TKD is fun and many of the instructors who teach it are wonderful and have great intentions, however the student looking for a martial art experience cannot always find it in straight TKD. (That's why Laurie questions what TKD lacks...) --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
