I tend to like to at times do a medley of forms that way several students can participate and you can also showcase a wide range of skill levels. An example would be A portion of Bassai Dai with a transition in and out of participants using flips to then begin Pyung Ahn Sa Dan transition in and out using a combination of tornado kicks to hook kick to cartwheel to a portion of Sae Kye Hyung E Bu transition in and out again maybe with a front roll, Kipup, to a Jumpkick to finsh off the demo with the remaining portion of Bassai Dai, Chinto, Nahanchi, etc. The music I tend to like is either techno or contemporary Christian. Braveheart Techno Remix is very nice and the song last about 4-5 minutes. You can get a copy of it from MP3.com. A good contemporary Christian song I have used in the past is I can See Clearly Now by Gospel Gangstaz. I have even used some of the Katinas songs. (especially since both student and attacker were teachers at the school function for which we were doing the demo). and....my yellow belts performed wonderfully. they rocked :). i'm so proud of each and every one of them. from age 4 to 34, each student did their absolute best and i asked the crowd for another round of applause since these students employed quite a bit of courage to get up in front of over 200 people and do their thing. i made sure each and every student knew that if they made a mistake, life would go on and i would be proud of them regardless for having the courage to take part. be sure to take the stress off on your side of things. its scary enough to have to get up in front of a group of people and perform new skills. make it fun and enjoyable and it'll show through to the crowd that you and your students love what theyre doing. focus and fun are both important. enjoy :), melinda Chajonshim Martial Arts Academy http://www.cjmaa.com Chajonshim Martial Arts Supply http://www.cjmas.com Toll Free: 1-877-847-4072 Proud Sponsor of the 2001 10th Annual US Open TKD Championships --__--__-- Message: 6 From: "Dunn, Danny J RASA" To: "'the_dojang@martialartsresource.net'" Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 09:16:09 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: Kong Soo Do Pekkwa Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Mac, Thanks for the response. By that, I meant TKD standing alone, being taught with its original intention intact - for spectatorship. It was a sport used to entertain the elite. Sorry, I assumed everyone would understand what I meant. Yes, I meant "Kukki-Taekwondo." (I do, however, watch out for their high round kicks :0 )>> I agree with everyone's reply on this but just want to say that TKD or any other MA is what you want to get out of it and can usually find a school that suits your needs. I've seen schools that are very sport oriented, some that are very traditional and some in between. Our school doesn't go to tournaments but you are welcome to attend if you wish. We focus on forms, one-step sparring, self-defense, and contact sparring. We practice courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable-spirit. Everyone respects each other calling each Sir or Ma'am with bowing and handshakes. We not only develop our physical skills but also work on becoming better people and improving our minds. We make sure everyone know the practicality of each technique explaining the concept of it so it can be adapted to different situations. Everyone is encouraged to study other arts and any question asked is answered with truth and honesty. Never make any such statements without doing your homework. I can certainly understand what your saying though, but there are a lot of schools out there doing a lot of different things.
