Martin, FITE President About the expulsion of members from the ITF of General Choi: Certainly it is really pathetic that there still exist people in the world with a few dictatorial beliefs. Or rather, it is not surprising if we look at the world and we see that there are countries which still exist where the military governs, as in the case of Cuba, and communism, in North Korea. This is probably why the people escape or ask for political asylum in other countries when they have the possibility of penetrating their borders. It is for the above reason that makes us really happy to be able to live in democratic countries where one can demonstrate with total freedom and without fear of repression. We live in cities where we can choose freely to go out with the family for a walk or to choose without dread, a restaurant to enjoy a pleasant meal. It is a clear demonstration of why we are not marionettes to be controlled. It is poor reasoning when people who don't want to belong to an organization are expelled, furthermore, some of the names on this list, for example in the case of the person who is writing this letter, cannot be expelled simply because they are not and have not been members of the ITF for two years, and left of their own free will. An organization that has failed to show the economic benefits makes people wonder where the money has gone over the decades; their famous words "the money has been well invested", is not an acceptable excuse any more. In a democratic professional organization, it is normal to show financial transactions, where everybody can have the possibility to see the reliability of the accountancy department without fear of repression. In Europe they don't seem to remember dictatorial attitudes of the recent past; when the ITF decided that the E.T.U European TKD Union should disappear because they were growing in strength, and the father and founder of Taekwon-Do General Choi and his people seemed not to like this. They were probably afraid ...... or to put it better, extremely nervous; because the democratic Taekwon-Do was increasing in size. The unilateral expulsion of, once more, to ETU president, Luis Baguena and the executive comitee marking the beginning of one era and the end of another; where people like Wim Bos, Sheena Sutherland and the rest of the demoted executive members, were not in the position of reacting and were also on the verge of expulsion. It was a shame for the interests of all practitioners of TKD, that these leaders could not have stood their ground a little better instead of being stepped on and backing down so easily. What a pity that they could not see the support and the credibility that they had at that moment. Very soon after, a new executive board was created with people whom it was possible to control, and one that would not be in any position to initiate a revolt in favor of a democratic ITF, and where its current president has always been in the eye of the hurricane for his continuous desrespect for the sports international events where his country was taking part. They seem to have a very short memory .... or maybe they are afraid. And when we all saw no hope suddenly a light appeared. Nobody had predicted that Master Choi Jung Hwa, son of General Choi, was going to be the one who would say that enough was enough. He was chosen democratically and was endorsed in a unanimous way and it was clear that he would not allow a repetition of the things that happened in Europe. The new ITF of Master Choi Jung Hwa grows in total democracy. An organization where the experience and the mistakes made in the past serve to improve things. The new ITF will try to recover all those people who left the former regime in which they were not permited to speak, grow or modernize. An organization should be opened to all people, who can take part in events with other organizations, and are not prohibited because they wish to compete in activities organized by other federations. The new ITF will continue growing and evolving, yes, in a democratic way and in accordance with the present times in which we live. Expulsion? We can ask the Cubans if they would like to be expelled from their native Cuba to Miami; or to the North Koreans of Pyong Yang. Of course yes. Or what the people who unfortunately have suffered under a dictatorship, Chile, Argentina, etc. Would they be prepared to return to the same things? Repression must not exist in the world and dictatorships will dissapear some day soon. It is for all these reasons that we live democratically and will always be free to think and choose the way we want and we can educate our children to the same ideals without fear of somebody trying to keep us silent. We send our best wishes and respect to the father and founder of TaeKwon-Do in his struggle against cancer. We will be eternally grateful to him for having created Taekwon-Do that is our way of life; and putting aside the political aspect ways, we will always fight so that his work is known in all the corners of the planet. Respectfully to all the lovers of the TaeKwon-Do Carlos E. Martin IV Degree International Instructor F.I.T.E President Member of the ITF under Master Choi Jung Hwa. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net, policedo@martialartsresource.net Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 8:39:16 PDT Subject: [The_Dojang] Sport TKD Calendar Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net The_Dojang's calendar of Sport Taekwondo Events May 26, 2002 http://MartialArtsResource.com http://the-dojang.net Dates and locations subject to change. 2002 Virginia State Games June 1 Midlothian, Virginia AAU Pacific Assoc Qualifier June 1 Aptos, California AAU Oklahoma Champs June 1 Moore, Oklahoma Italian ITF Open June 1-2 Rimini, Italy Norway ITF Open June 1-2 Tromsoe, Norway LA Open June 7-8 Anaheim, California European Champs June 8 Madrid, Spain Texas Invitational June 8 Plano, Texas Black Belt Spectacular June 8 Castle Rock, Colorado Master Choi's ITF Invitational June 8-9 Oakville, Ontario, Canada General Choi's ITF Cup June 8-9 Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Tekno-NY Open June 9 Jersey City, New Jersey Bundaberg Rum ITF Champs June 9 Bundaberg, Queensland, Aus 7th World Univ TKD Champs June 12-15 Berkeley, California GB International June 15 Kettering, England 5th Hawaii Open June 15 Honolulu, Hawaii Greek Open June 16 Karditsa, Greece European Champs for Teams June 28-30 Madrid, Spain ITF Taekwon-Do Intl Champs June 29 Eschwege, Germany USTU Junior Olympic TKD June 30-July 6 Minneapolis, Minnesota 5th Intl Chungcheong Open July 1-3 Cheongju, Koera AAU National TKD Champs July 3-6 Greensboro, North Carolina PATU Summer Camp July 5-14 Seoul, Korea AAU Junior Olympic Games July 7-10 Knoxville, Tennessee GTF World Champs July 11-14 Toronto, Canada California State Games July 13 San Diego, California Central Jamaica Champs July 13 Mandeville, Jamaica United ITF Australia Tasmanian July 13 Tasmania, Australia British Open July 13-14 Isleworth, England World Cup 2002 July 16-19 Tokyo, Japan 2002 Gladiator Games July 19-21 San Jose, California 2002 World Cup July 23-36 Tokyo, Japan Greater Western Champs July 28 Penrith, Australia Mexican Open Aug TBD ITF Asian Taekwon-Do Champs Aug 2-3 Astana, Kazakhstan 2nd Annual Female Athletes Camp Aug 2-8 Larkspur, Colorado 3rd Best of the Best Aug 3 Irvine, California AAU Junior Olympic Games Aug 7-10 Knoxville, Tennessee 2002 Master Instructor Licensing Aug 9-10 Colorado Springs, Colorado 3rd Korea Open Chuncheon Intl Aug 14-19 Chuncheon, Korea 2nd Canadian Open Aug 16-18 Brampton, Ontario, Canada USTU Presidents Cup Aug 24 Anaheim, California US National Team Trials Aug 24-25 Colorado Springs, Colorado Carolina Open Sept 7 Rock Hill, South Carolina ITF Queensland Champs Spet 8 Queensland, Australia ITF PanAm Cup Sept 9-13 Quebec, Canada Southern Highlands Champs Sept 14 Moss Vale, Australia US Won 1st Las Vegas Open Sept 21 Las Vegas, Nevada ITF Artic Cup Sept 28-29 Tromsoe, Norway Junior World Champs Oct 1-6 Heraklion Kreta, Greece ITF Australian Champs Oct 4-5 Melbourne, Australia United ITF Australasian Oct 5-6 Auckland, New Zealand Best of the Best Oct 6 Pennsauken, New Jersey 13th Pan-Am TKD Champs Oct 9-12 Quito, Ecuador 14th Asian Games Oct 10-13 Busan, Korea 2002 Master Instructor Licensing Oct 11-12 Dallas, Texas 16th US Martial Arts Champs Oct 12 Youngstown, Ohio 2nd International Champs Oct 17-20 New Delhi, India BUTF ITF British Open Oct 19 London, England 22nd Tekno Ft. Some of the things that I have done in SD classes are: The counting game. Walking down the street randomly stop and have your partner close their eyes. they then have to tell you how many people are within a certain range. The clothing game. pick something like "red shirt" and see who is the first person to see someone with that kind of clothing. And the spook house. Have people hiding in certain places. Don't tell the kids that there are people hiding. Take a walk or have the kids take a walk through a set course. Maybe on the ruse of "we are going to have class in the room down the hall" You can then either have them count the people they saw on their walk. Or have the people jump out and scare them if they are not spotted first. Modify them for the class and location that you are working with. I hope that helps.
