Here is the situation: My son and I started training in TKD at a school run by a 5th Dan and his then-wife, a 2nd Dan. Unbeknownst to me, the wife was a sociopath with a very convincing liar. She convinced me as well as others in the school that the Master instructor was the "crazy one." She literally forced him out, and took over the school. They divorced, and we had no further contact with him. My son had just earned his 1st Dan, and I didn't want to jeopardize his training, so we continued in the school. Last summer, due to her mismanagement, the school closed. When I finally realized what a sociopath she was, I contacted our Master Instructor and sincerely apologized. We have renewed our friendship. Early last fall, we joined another school in our area that is run by a former student (now a 3rd Dan) of the Master Instructor. He graciously accepted us into his school, and honored the highest rank that the Master Instructor had last promoted us. We are very happy in this school. The Master Instructor recently told me that he plans to open a TKD "club" rather than a formal school. He has asked my son and me to work out with him some other former students. THE DILEMMA: What is the proper dojang etiquette for this situation? I plan to talk with the Master Instructor AND my current head instructor about this. I do NOT want to offend either of them. I would like to continue in my current school, as well as work out with my Master Instructor. I would like to continue in my current school with rank advancement, as well as work out with the Master. Thank you in advance for your advice. It is historical irony that the US-Korea World Cup match on June 10 is the same date 131 years ago that the US first set foot on Korean soil, militarily, starting the three-day battle of the so-called 'Shinmiyangyo'. Hopefully, the outcome of this 'battle' is more amicable. I probably would not have saved his life, but perhaps it would have allowed him to die fighting his captors, which to me seems more desirable than the way in which he was killed. This is war, no two ways about it, and it's just beginning. Secondly, I've been taught that when you see evil in the world, it's better to take a long hard look at it than to avert your eyes. This is why I watched the video. Know your enemy.
