I need to >learn breath control. - Hi,Tolulope Oludipe or Tim D and be blessed. I am a Hapkido SabomNim now for the past 25 years and have BB in Tae Kwon Do and in Tang Soo Do since the earlly 70'es. - I will sugest you to try these sugestions as part of your regular workout and training; If you feel you are starting to make achievements feel free to contact me personally at : ramonnavarro123@yahoo.com or at rana_hapkido_panama2002@yahoo.com and feel welcome! - 'HAP' - The best way to not pant during a hard workout is by using the baloon breathing theory : This is that if 'a baloon canot raise with out air nor a baloon go down with air' when ever you work out and your movement is going up you inhale and when going down you exhale; Since your desired goal is flexibility and relaxsation and your lungs being bent it would be hard to breath or inhale so when you bend exhale and when spread to inhale. >Two saboenims I've met for tutorage majorly tell me its something one >learns by ones self (actually I think this aspect of the art they know >but can't impart ;-). I'm trying but getting nowhere. >Can anyone help? - There is no way you can learn this by yourself in one life. This is the reason why eversince anyone knows it has been said that to learn a martial art correctly you need a teacher. Therefore you must have someone experiensed to guide you so you can make achievements! So in combat situations you must consentrate to inhale while at the relacsed moments or durind defensive actions and at attacking, counter attacks you exhale, this will help you not to pant so regularlly after a while or after you have become customed. >Thanks, >Timi D. >Lagos, Nigeria. >Sign-up for Video Highlights of 2002 FIFA World Cup _____________________________________________________________ Get a web-based email for life now ---> http://mail.hapkidokr.org _____________________________________________________________ Promote your group and strengthen ties to your members with email@yourgroup.org by Everyone.net http://www.everyone.net/?btn=tag --__--__-- Message: 3 From: HenryCho@aol.com Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2002 16:02:02 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] GEN. CHOI, HONG HI Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear fellow martial artists: I have just learned that General Choi, Hong Hi, the president and founder of the ITF, had passed away on June 15, 2002. It is a disturbing news to me and I am sure it is to you too. I would like to take this opportunity to send my condolences to Mrs. Choi and his children. Looking back into the past, we find that Gen. Choi was a controversial figure in some ways; with his politics and philosophy. His voluntary involvement and siding with North Korean government had betrayed the trust of leadership in the eyes of his South Korean followers and it had led him into being criticized by many of them including most of the South Korean martial artists throughout the world. No matter what political views he chose to take, it was the decision he made for himself and it should only be judged by historians. Many people disagreed with him that he was 'the Father of Tae Kwon Do' because he unified the terminology for the Korean Martial Arts under the name of 'Tae Kwon Do', the name he had named first. Moreover, his promoting himself as if he were the creator of the art itself because of the naming of Tae Kwon Do has left a bitter taste to many intellectuals. Then, people would ask, 'Who is the father of Buddhism'? 'Judo'? 'Boxing'? I am sure Gen. Choi would try to avoid answering such questions. However, we all remember him as one who had helped promote the art of Tae Kwon Do in many ways. Through his books and publications, he had been reaching many readers as well as practitioners of the art of TKD. He had been attending many tournaments and seminars where he had demonstrated his ultimate eagerness for the art. No one seems to disagree with the fact that he had spent most part of his retired life with and for the art. I am therefore proudly recommend that we, all the martial artists, ought to thank him for that. Thank you Gen. Choi for everything you had done for us. Rest now in everlasting peace! Good bye and God bless General Choi, Hong Hi! June 18, 2002 S. Boxing (caveat: may be too basic for some individuals). - Continuation of boxing basics plus adding additional basic punches. a. Hand wraps. b. Review stances. c. Add jab, movement, re: pivot, back and forth, sideways. d. Same movements, add double jab (note: use tempo on jab). e. Rotate through stations: - 2 rounds (2 or 3 minutes, 1 minute break) speed-bag - 2 rounds double end bag - 2 rounds heavy bag= light punches (toughen hands and wrists) -- use jab (only) and move around bag -- use double jab and add movement f. Add basics of straight right punch: - Use hip, leg, and ball of right (rear) foot to add torque to punch - Right side twisting on hinge concept= whole side of body moves into punch - Keep right rear leg in proper stance (re: not to close to front leg). - Twist right hand at end of extension. g. Add jab and right hand punch - First call out number one for jab, then double jab, then add movement - Add right hand punch; use number one for jab, number two for right hand h. Have defense added - Through jab, X blocks and throws jab; you parry with right hand, either parry with slight motion down, or use "catch" with glove technique. - Keep elbows in, hands and arms loose (elbows protect ribs, sides) i. Add offense and defense with above patterns - You and X trade jab and right hand punch - Employ motion, to the right or left (use lead foot as pivot), step forward, step back - Use one jab, followed by double jab, followed by addition of right, followed by X throwing shots and you parry with right hand (switch with downward parry motion or catch jab routine. Note: either motion requires little motion. Don't extend or reach hands/arms). j. Observe sparring session (live) Note: x drops left hand with throwing of jab. k. Observe professional fight--taped. l. Exercises. - Add medicine ball, re: hit X's stomach hard with ball, X grabs ball and returns fire to your stomach. Same with both sides of body. m. Stretching exercises. - Add leg swings McD...
