I have to agree with Mr. Weller and Mr. Atchinson...Everything you are doing is the embodiment of Indomitable Spirit..."To know and confront the odds, taking them on head first, never losing hope or faith in yourself or your abilities." (My definition)...Just keep doing what you are doing...you will realize many of the benefits of TKD as pointed out by Mr. Weller ... This is an open forum...if you have questions ..ask...someone will provide an answer...may not be a good one.. but it will give you something to think about... (I can't believe I actually agreed with Mr. Weller and Mr. Atchinson and admitted to it!!!...Wait a minute...I'm the higher rank...They must have agreed with me...) K. G. This article features an interview with WTF Vice-President Chong Woo Lee, in which he ADMITS that the results of the Taekwondo competition in Sydney were "fixed". http://www.ladytkd.com/shindonga.doc Some of us have had suspicions about competition outcomes, and very questionable refereeing, for years. This article - sadly - confirms our fears. Ray Terry --__--__-- Message: 8 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Tue, 25 Jun 2002 12:52:48 PDT Subject: [The_Dojang] Nation Remembers Korean War Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Nation Remembers Korean War June 25, 2002 The nation observed the 52nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War (1950-1953) on Tuesday (June 25), holding various memorial ceremonies, including one at the National Cemetery in Dongjak-dong, southern Seoul. The memorial ceremony, organized by the Korean Veterans Association (KVA), was attended by about 3,000 people. On hand were Prime Minister Lee Han-dong, three chiefs of staff from the Army, Navy and Air Force as well as Korean and foreign war veterans and families of soldiers killed in action. In an opening speech, KVA chairman Lee Sang-hoon said, "Without the bravery and sacrifice of these war veterans who took the lead to save Korea, we could not be enjoying todaynulls national prosperity and future visions, not to mention the World Cup finals." Lee also said that Korea should draw on the national unity shown during the World Cup to boost patriotism. Earlier in the day, an enshrining ceremony for 112 remains of those killed during the Korean War was held at the National Cemetery. Also, 13 KVA regional chapters hosted various other ceremonies across the nation, including a war film festival in Taejon, an exhibition of military equipment in Daegu and a combat ration tasting party in Chungcheongnam-do province. Meanwhile, 51 veterans from the United States, the Netherlands, South Africa and Greece visited Korea at the KVAnulls invitation. After the ceremony, they toured the truce village of Panmunjeom inside the demilitarized zone (DMZ) and War Memorial in Yongsan, central Seoul. --__--__-- Message: 9 From: "Laurie S." There's a lot of good people here. <<<>>> I started MA for self defense. One of my jobs was security police, and I wanted to learn some sort of self defense. But I got addicted to it. I do not think that I could add more on the subject of "indomitable spirit" than what has already been said. (no need to repeat the same words as I agree with everything said do far) As far as how I got started in Martial Arts...... I always wanted to learn martial arts even when I was younger. But I never got the opportunity. [I think my parents were afraid that I would become some sort of "wild warrior" that they wouldn't be able to control. :o) ] When my oldest son reached the age of five I thought it would be a great time to start a new physical activity for him (taekwondo) that would also develop character and self confidence. When I went to sign him up, I joined myself for an extra ten bucks a month and we started our journey in the arts together. I was hooked from the very start. I got all the way to "black belt candidate" (basically I was two months from testing for black belt) when we moved to the east coast. I finally found a school similar to ours (very traditional/non-sport oriented) and decided to start my journey again. As an experienced white belt I did not stay at that rank very long. I should be a brown belt by mid July. As for my son, he had reached brown belt ranking in our old school but did not want to be a "white belt" again. I guess at eight years old that is a big thing. I might still persuade him to join. My youngest son is four and is EXTREMELY interested in Taekwondo but he needs to wait another year before he starts. I think my oldest will change his mind when my youngest starts cause I know he doesn't want his little brother "catching up" with him. Anyway that's the story of how I got started in martial arts. As for the future. I will always practice taekwondo, but I see trying Hapkido once I find a school close by. From what I've seen of Hapkido I think I will enjoy it as much as taekwondo and it will also add another level/dimension to my martial arts journey. Enough rambling.........
