Now in reality when you throw really hard your hand "will" follow thru some because you just can't stop it, but have the idea of pointing your hand at the target everytime you release a knife. 4) Practice with many different knives, different weights, different sizes, etc... 5) Treat your knives rough,, I don't mean, abuse them and let them rust, I mean, don't buy a 300 dollar knife to throw!!! If you have that kind of money to waste contact me by email and I'll let you send me some of your "spare" money!! 6) After throwing your knives, be sure to clean and resharpen the points,, I use a chicago cutlery sharpening rod I got at the flea market for something like 12 bucks,,, it works great and it doesn't take me all night to sharpen them again. 7) Last but not least,, watch out for the kickback, sometimes at 12 feet when your knives hit the wrong way on the wood target they will kickback all the way to where you are,, I have never been hit by one but I have done the Texas two step on a few occasions... have fun and be careful. 8) Also,, watch your neighbors,, they have one of two reactions,, one they think your an insane maniac and start giving you the nervous look when they see your or two, they also always wanted to throw knives and come over and cut into your practice time by wanting to throw with you,,, but none of my neighbors ever bring their own knives!! They just want to use mine. Showed a couple of wrestlers using the Puke Can at the edge of the mats during practice and later during a meet.. boy did that bring back some bad memories! Hi Barbara, What type of info are you looking for? How to train? At what rank to begin full-contact sparring? ??? The telephone message was sent by U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. James N. Soligan, deputy chief of the UNC, to his North Korean counterpart Lt. Gen. Lee Chan-bok, officials said. It was the second time that the UNC, led by U.S. troops, has proposed a meeting with North Korean officers since the naval battle raised tension on the peninsula. In a statement, the UNC said that two North Korean Navy patrol boats violated the 1953 Armistice Agreement, which capped three years of the Korean War (1950-53), by firing on a South Korean patrol boat. "We view the North's firing upon and killing ROK sailors as a provocative act that has increased tensions across the peninsula," said Soligan. On Monday, Gen. Leon J. LaPorte, commander of the UNC, and Korean Defense Minister Kim Dong-shin discussed when to schedule general officers' talks. "We urge the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) to continue to follow the provisions of the Armistice Agreement, keep their military forces from the ROK military forces and keep their forces from conducting hostile acts," Soligan said. On Sunday, North Korea rejected the UNC's proposal for military talks, saying that the sea border, which it argues is illegal because it was unilaterally declared, should first be abandoned for military talks to take place. In a telephone message addressed to UNC Col. Martin D. Glasser, North Korean Col. Kwak Yong-hun said, "The incident has nothing to do with the Armistice Agreement. It is because of the NLL, unilaterally established and imposed by the UN." "If the talks are not about the abolition of the NLL, they are meaningless," he added. On Saturday, the UNC, called for general-level officers' talks on the inter-Korean skirmish on the West Sea to be held at 6:00 p.m. at the truce village of Panmunjeom. But North Korea did not respond to the proposal. The sea border has been drawn by the UNC on Aug. 30, 1953. In September 1999, North Korea declared the NLL in the West Sea "invalid," threatening to use military force to defend its control of the disputed waters. The maritime border lies midway between five of South Korea's western islands and the North Korean mainland. It is only 15 km to 30 km from the North Korean coast. --__--__-- Message: 9 From: ChunjiDo@aol.com Date: Thu, 4 Jul 2002 01:27:55 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Kansas City, MO Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net <> hey chris, we just moved from there a year ago. one of my masters is still there, though...master john brown. you can reach him at 816-309-6151 or 913-648-6868. great guy to train with :) melinda Chajonshim Martial Arts Academy http://www.cjmaa.com Chajonshim Martial Arts Supply http://www.cjmas.com Toll Free: 1-877-847-4072 Proud Sponsor of the 2001 10th Annual US Open TKD Championships --__--__-- Message: 10 From: Creed71963@aol.com Date: Thu, 4 Jul 2002 01:32:31 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Michael Ecanis books Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net In a message dated 07/03/2002 8:12:40 PM EST, the_dojang-request@martialartsresource.net writes: << I also think the old Michael Ecanis weapon disarming books are very good too. >> Have anyone noticed that his Red Book (stick fighting) and Green Book (Knife defences) are not that hard to locate and buy, but his Black Book (Knife fighting) is almost impossible to find???? Couple of years ago, I staged a seminar with a master from Turkey. I invited friends from other dojangs. Among the participants, there was a boy, a white belt from our branch school that I met for the first time. I noticed him at once for his smiling face. A tiny kid in his white dobok. I was surprised to hear that he is ten years old as he looked at least couple of years younger. He took part in our seminars, travelled to our training camps. As I only saw him from time to time, it was easy to see that the boy is growing very slowly. One day, I had an opportunity to speak with his father who turned out to be a great fellow. We became friends. He told me a lot about Pawel (so was the boy`s first name). He told about the trips to the hospitals in Warsaw, many medical tests, lots of injections and therapies to speed up the growth of the boy. I was really impressed by the determination of both the boy and his father. To ensure the best training, Pawel`s father started to drive him to our main dojang. The boy started to take part in competitions. I remember his first fight as a green belt, when he squared off against a strong 1st Poom holder (most competitions here are not divided by belt categories). His opponent was much taller and stronger and Pawel lost clearly. But after the fight, one of the opponent`s coaches came to me and said: "You know, I`m impressed - the guy is so small, has a green belt, and he kept fighting our fighter all the time - he was not afraid at all! He`s gonna be a great fighter too". As Pawel progressed trought the ranks, so were his fighting abilities getting better. During the Polish Cup for youth, held under ITF-style rules, he dominated the continuous contact division, and later the point-stop division winning the final by "technical KO" (score 10:0) and gaining the Grand Champion trophy! During the fights, I heard one of my friends` voice "C`mon, Piotr, where did you got such a pitbull from?" So, "Pitbull" was from then Pawel`s nickname... He fights ITF style, WTF style, open events, is great at patterns and likes HKD very much. He is the current Polish Champion. Couple of days ago, he took part in the national Black Belt Grading. At 15 years of age, he passed with flying colours, putting some adult testees to shame (his partner during the grading, testing for 1st Poom, was 3 years younger and 10 cm taller...). And with 153 cm of height he is surely the smallest Dan holder in Poland - and will keep this position for long, because he probably won`t grow much bigger in the future. During our jorney home, I asked him "Pawel, after all these years, didn`t you really got accustomed to your size?" and he answered with a smile "Of course Sir, it doesn`t bother me anymore..." I can`t wait for our first training during the summer camp, when I will give him his first Black Belt - the one that he deserves very, very much. And you can see his picture here: http://www.taekwondo.prv.pl/ang/anews.htm Best regards -- Piotr Bernat dantaekwondo@lublin.home.pl http://www.taekwondo.prv.pl --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
