Just over fifty (50) practicipants were in attendance. Over the course of two days, I focused and the biomechanics of some very basic skills which turned out to be not so basic and management of a variety of injuries resulting from poor mechanics from a Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine perspective. Thank you for asking. Ian A. On the question of Hwarangdo, however, I will mention that originally Hwarangdo was indeed affiliated with the Kidohae. As time went on however, GM Lee Joo Bang's organization went in a very different direction and is now its own entity. I know GM Lee's people may disagree with this statement but I believe this to be true. There was a question about this matter raised to us a few years back from the GM Lee's representatives. For a matter of this nature, we asked that GM Lee contact GM In Sun Seo directly. GM Seo was never contacted. In anycase, GM Lee's Hwarangdo organization is now his own and has no affliation with the Kidohae. Bruce, Regarding the Chicage seminar, I'm not quite sure if GM Seo will be attending this seminar as of yet. We have discussed attending this seminar but have not made final plans. Also, I have actually always been based in California, not Texas. Danny Dunn, Much of the formation of the Korean Martials occurred with a great deal of political underpinnings involved. What seems to be clear is that much of the "striking arts" were being consolidated under the Tae Kwon Do name and moved in the direction of sports and competition. Right or wrong, the original Kidohae founders(GM Choi Yong sool, GM Suh Bok Sup, et al) felt a need for a "martial arts" organization separate from Tae Kwon Do. Therefore the Kidohae was formed with the charter to oversee the Korean Martial Arts. I recognize that there were a great deal of politics involved and that many people practiced and continue to practice Tae Kwon Do as a pure martial arts. But from a historical and high level perspective, I believe that it is right to say that the powers that be in Tae Kwon Do, pushed the sports aspect and therefore created a need for other organizations. In terms of Tang Soo Do, it seems that several factors excluded its inclusion into the Kidohae. One being the perception of many Koreans at that time that it was too similar to Karate-do to be considered a Korean Martial Art(of course this may have been politically motivated by opponents of Tang Soo Do). Perhaps more than that was the Tang Soo Do leadership's reluctance to be "governed" by any other organization(this was stated by Cliff in a previous posting as well). I personally believe that Korean Martials have gone through(and is still going through) a great deal of "growing pains" which have contributed to much of the confusion. Hopefully as time goes by, we can get more clarity in all these matters. Steve Seo Sign up for SBC Yahoo!
