Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear Ray: ".....Some of the colors frequently used before black are white, yellow, green, blue, red, but other colors like orange, purple, brown and even camo are used in some TKD dojangs....." My understanding is that the color of the Australian guep belts begins with red, goes to brown and continues in exactly the opposite progression as the rank system as used in the Northern Hemisphere. But then, the same source also told me that all Spin Kicks are executed in exactly the opposite direction as up north. I suppose I could be wrong. :-) Best Wishes, Bruce --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Beungood@aol.com Date: Mon, 15 Jul 2002 15:36:32 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re:Could you explain this a little? Anyways, I'm with the WTF, and we have green belt, which I just got 2 weeks ago. Our belt order goes: white, yellow stripe, yellow, green stripe, green, blue stripe, blue, brown stripe, brown, red stripe, red, 2 black stripes, then black. We also have what we call "tips". Which is smaller stripes (4) that we earn for forms, combos, step sparring, ect. Hope this helped. When searching back issues of the digest there are now two realms that you may search. The 'dojang' realm consists of the old issues of the digest plus some other reference docs, e.g. the KMA FAQ. The 'newdojang' realm consists only of digest issues from this year. So what does all this mean? If you go to the search page http://martialartsresource.com/korean/search/search.cgi and do not make any changes to the defaults on that page, you will notice no diff. However if you choose to change the Search Index (realm) from "All" to either "dojang" or "newdojang" you will limit your search as described above. Any questions, let me know. Thanks. In hopes of bringing in badly needed hard currency, North Korea had stepped up its overseas publicity efforts for the festival, which began April 29. It was originally scheduled to run through June 29, but was extended by 15 days to attract more foreigners, including South Koreans. "An exact record on the number of the audience members is not available, but visitors to the North said the maximum number of foreign visitors a day was no more than 800," a Unification Ministry official said. The official said the festival failed to bear much fruit since North Korea is not an attractive vacation destination for foreigners and South Koreans could not attend in large groups. Since the event opened, experts have said Arirang will not succeed without South Korean participation. The Seoul government did not allow South Koreans to visit the North to attend the festival, which commemorates the 90th birthday of the late North Korean founder Kim Il-sung, in fear of drawing criticism from conservative forces. Some South Koreans attended the performances on the sidelines of visits to the North for which Seoul allowed them entry. "I think the Arirang festival incurred a huge economic loss to North Korea since it invested a huge amount of money and relied on droves of people," the official said. The extravaganza featured 100,000 gymnasts, entertainers and musicians in Pyongyang's 150,000-seat May Day Stadium. The performance, running one hour and 20 minutes, continued every day but Sundays from 8 p.m. Government officials said North Korean participants in the performances prepared for it for the past year and predicted many of them who do not reside in Pyongyang might have had to stay in lodging facilities in the capital. Analysts said that the Arirang festival offered a glimpse of positive changes in the North. "Even though the performances reflected its political propaganda, the North stressed national reconciliation more than ever," a North Korea expert said. That (the messege from Mr. Ferraro) was the most nicest thing I heard someone say about Hwang Kee. It brought a tear to my eye. Man, it's still a shock to me. I'm still in aw and sadened.
