My up-and-coming brown belt, for instance, is a good example. When I started getting reinterested in bunkai my self, he took on the passion also, but went a bit far, for example, while Chul Gi 1 has many possibly devestating move such as hidden neck breaks, arm locks, okinawan nooggies, etc, you don't nessesarily need to translate every movement into such. (We did find out though that pyong an 2 is a bitch of an ass beater kata) If you spend all of your time trying to turn a Queen of Spades into a heart, you will miss the beauty of the kata. Some time a spade is a spade ya know? BUT! As the last paragraph passes me by I must now talk in bunkai favor. It seperates us from the rest of these 'laughable' Korean Martial Artists that run around here like crazy. Step into a Hapkido school long enough, you are gonna get thrown right? Hell yeah. Step into our school long enough, (Chittim/Jordan Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do) and you are going to be a bunkai partner, and realize why our advanced belts are so damn good. I would put my green belts against any franchise TKD schools blackbelts anyday. Not to put down on them (franchises) but ask them to tell you what they are doing in their kata, I promise you will get "kick...block...punch...i don't know..." Ours will allow you to realize the beauty of the neverending KMA journey. I think its good to thump on each other in a self defense 'arena' instead of a sparring ring. Geez, I write too much. But not as much as the research guy in the last digest :D Yours in the martial arts... Charlie Veuleman ===== ------------------------------------- L. My master taught me that they were supposed to be a way of life, but it seems that more bb use them only when it suits them.I do enjoy reading the list it has a lot of information when everyone is not slinging mud at one another. Please lets all play nice and stop the my dad is better than your dad. I haven't played that game since I was a yungun. If I stepped on any toes, well if the shoe fits sorry. I was hoping some of you might know some good Hapkido and TKD schools in the area that are worth checking out. Please feel free to contact me offline so as not to tie up the digest. I'm 34 and had an acute tear of the ACL in June, last year. An injury I received in class. I had surgery in August and feel, as I approach the one year mark, that I'm doing quite well. I have often wondered about the specific effects of diet on this healing process, and have deliberately cut out some things like soda; I've been sort of suspicious of the acids in sodas like Coke. Any how, any info you can give me would be appreciated.
