I have often wondered about the specific effects of diet on this healing process, and have deliberately cut out some things like soda; I've been sort of suspicious of the acids in sodas like Coke. ....." Just a quick thought, so please excuse the intrusion. In the matter of soda like Coke or Pepsi the issue is two-fold. Sodas which contain caffeine readily de-nature water-soluble (ie. vitamin C, D and B-complex) which are all very important to maintaining sound metabolic efficiency under the stress of training. However, an additional problem is that many sodas also contain phosphoric compounds as preservatives which are suspected of leaching calcium out of the body. This is not only a problem for maintaining a sound skeletal system over time, but also contributes to imbalances among the various elements (Calcium, Potassium, Sodium) necessary for efficient neuro-muscular activity. In the short-term, then, soda can give you a high with a pleasant burst of sugar, fluid, cooling and caffiene. In the longer view, however, soda does more damage than its worth. So does that mean that you are not affiliated with the KMAIA and that they are listing you without your permission? Could you clarify this for us? I hate to put you on the spot, but your post confused me on this point. Imagine my chagrin to find out my certification isn't worth the paper it's printed on......" Why, Master West! You ol' fraud, you!! Thats OK. How about we take up a collection ($200 to $300 dollars oughta do it) and we can get you a jen-U-wine Kereean White Belt and you can start all over again and do it the right way, yes? Now, of course, you will need to align yourself under some relatively obscure Kereean national who is looking to develop a MA market in a new country where his skill or status couldn't get him the same back in the ol' country, but thats OK. Just take the next 6 months to a year for the response to come through to practice your sniveling/groveling techniques and in about 5 years (& about $3000US) you should be back where you are now and right as rain. Or as Geoff would say, "no worries, mate". From: Bruce.Sims@med.va.gov To: the_dojang-admin@martialartsresource.net Subject: KMAIA Stuff Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 07:53:48 -0500 Dear Gary: ".....Your comments regarding the existence, function and purpose of the KMAIA is TOTALLY A LIE! You mentioned that you had this came up a year or three ago about a new organization in town, i.e., the Korean Martial Arts Instructors Association (KMAIA). The organization is not new, especially for those who have spent some REAL time in South Korea (ROK) and have legitimate affiliations with the traditional Korean martial arts organizations over there. The KMAIA does exist and they have extended an opportunity for those outside of (South) Korea to become associated with it. It is true all true traditional martial arts instuctors and those who operate dojangs in South Korea are members of the KMAIA......" Perhaps a historical perspective would be of some help. Getting the who/what/when/where/how & why would be more than a little interesting, yes? This organization doesn't have any relationship to the efforts by the Dai Nippon Butokukai to engender a unifying force between the MA of Japan and those of Korea during the Occupation, does it? I notice that there are people in the Chicago area who regularly allude to being affiliated with an obscure organization martial art masters located in Korea but I assumed they were referring to something better known like the Kidohae. Any help would be appreciated. I know most of us get tired of the petty bickering, but I also know the damage that can be done when things are tucked away and not talked about. For me, personally, I have a gut reaction when individuals or organizations begin to assign some level of exclusivity to their position (IE. "Only Legitimate" or "Only Organization recognized by the Korean Government"). That gut reaction gets worse when the matters of commerce get thrown in as well. Thats on me, though, and I don't pretend that its anyone elses' problem but mine. The reason that I am taking the time to write this short "thank you" is for those folks who may not have the desire to come out of "lurk mode" and may not even appreciate yet how badly they need the sort of information exchanges we get here. KMAIA? I don't know. People who have read my stuff in the past can probably guess my opinion. I am just writing to say that I appreciate having a place to vent that opinion if anyone asks. As I said before, I have no beef in this but by posting this information Mr. Pointer and all that are involved can definately put an end to the puzzlement and misunderstanding that seems to have befallen them. The "informal fallacy" of (explicitly or implicitly) assuming the truth of the conclusion of an argument as one of the premises employed in an effort to demonstrate its truth. Example: "Since firefighters must be strong men willing to face danger every day, it follows that no woman can be a firefighter." Although arguments of this sort are formally valid because it is impossible for their conclusions to be false if their premises are true, they fail to provide logical support for their conclusions, which have already been accepted without proof at the outset. (http://www.philosophypages.com/dy/b2.htm#beg) On another note - Dakin's rebuttal - which is wonderful, the statement "It also mentions that Michelle Yeoh, Sammo Hung, and JackieChan all studied hapkido, which I suppose is good marketing, but is fairly misleading." Gave me the opportunity to give a shameless plug to my GM http://www.jinpal.com/Jackie-Chans-Hapkido-teacher-t.htm :) B --__--__-- Message: 10 From: "Moja Kwan Tang Soo Do" To: Cc: "Kimberley Cerami" Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 13:03:19 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] Nashville TKD Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net <> I am writing because it is becoming a very strong possibility that I will be moving to Nashville in about a year.
